I subscribe to the idea that since GIF is short for Graphic Interchange Format (or something like that), it is pronounces with a hard "G" sound. Otherwise, you are talking about peanut butter. :p

I say no vice when I read it out of habit. I know it's supposed to be nov iss though.

added 2 more. I've never heard anyone say "BenQ" before so I didn't even know what pronunciations to put.

I really hope English isn't your first language. no-vice, what the hell is that? maw-na? These aren't obscure ethnic names, they're common English words!

Actually English is my first language. I already said that I know how novice is supposed to be pronounced, I just read it no-vice out of habit from when I was younger, thats how I would read it on video games. And I could've swore that I heard one of the characters in Diablo 2 say maw-na and it was the first time I had ever heard the word pronounced. Maybe he was just speaking with a weird accent though. I'll say man-ah from now on though.

It's worth a read.

It's pronounced like "jif". Period. The end. That's final. End of story.

Actually, looknig at it again, I'm not so sure the way you actually say mana is wrong, I think it may just be the way you wrote the pronunciation. The correct pronunciation is like mona where "mon" is pronounced like the first half of "monsoon" and "a" is pronounced basically like "uh". The way you wrote "maw-na" breaks the word up in the middle and gives it a drawn out first syllable and makes the whole word sound weird.

Also:
jif
jay-peg
kuh-zaa - that's what I say, I don't know what's proper
lol - I don't pronounce this. I read it as "hahaha" or laughter.
seiko - no idea, I don't beleive I've ever said that. It's a company that makes watches, right?
mona - with above explanation.
wares - It's short for "softwares" with the "s" substituted for a "z" for 1337ness. It's not juarez, the city in Mexico.
nov-iss - A vice is a carpentry tool. If you go into a workshop, you may say "hey, there's no vice here." If you're talking about someone who lacks skill at carpentry, you'd say "He's a nov-iss".

WTF is BenQ?

That's exactly how I meant mana to sound. My gf bought a BenQ cd burner the other day. They also make mp3 players in the latest Crutchfield mag. Other than that, I've never heard of them.

does someone not speak english? ... j/k.
reminds me of a thread awhile ago where some person was pronouncing "OS" (as in the windows os or mac os) like "oss" instead of O.-S.

Tag Heuer

tag hoy-er
tag how-er
tag hue-er

i say it tag hoy-er, which is what i gather to be the correct pronunciation after seeing the commercial on TV.
