No, when the 2 canadates are going to be giving us such a swell tax rate cut based on a surples that is basically taking SS and giving us that money of course there won't be SS when we get old.

No, it is a pyramid scheme, if anyone other than the government did this the would be in jail. Contribute for 40 years and die at say 64 1/2 years old and you get nothing.
 
Yes. There is enough money to last my projected lifetime. I also think that Congress will find a way to fund some sort of retirement program to keep the people (elderly) who vote the most happy. Like Bore says, the government is here to be all things to all people.
 
I know it won't be there when I retire.. Its probably not going to be there when my parents retire in a few years too.

Like it's been said, SS is a pryamid scheme, so I'm not planning on it being around in 50 years when I need it.:|

I heard this same argument in the late 50s, early 60s, figured it was true and planned my life so I would not need SS to exist or retire. I felt like if I did get it I should be able to consider it a bonus. Its still here and so am I. I think it will be here for a long time to come since it is "political Suicide" for any candadate to mess with it.

BTW, take it at 62 1/2 unless you plan to live past about 77-80 as that is the break even point. Thats what I am going to do if I live that long.

A funny story:

My grandfather was well off, said he didnt need SS, would leave it for those who did and never filed (late 1950s). Guess what? A few years later he gets auditied by the IRS because he didnt take it and told he HAS to take it and gets a big check. Hows that for bureauacracy?
 
SS will not be completely terminated, it has become too much of a national program with too much importance. It may be changed and modified, but never eliminated.
 
SS may still be in existence by the time I retire, but the chances of my being able to actually live on the income it would provide are next to nil... so I'm basically not planning on having it at all...

even if it was will it be nearly enough to keep up with our inflation?
 
I doubt it will be, and that's when I'm gonna sue the federal government for all the money that I paid into it during my lifetime.
