Poll: poll: baulders gate vs diablo 2

just got my baulders gate (the original) for 6 bucks from the hot deals forum, and i was surprised that it was 5 discs. and just yesterday i started playin on diablo 2 closed, i had a level 20 paladin that i got to level 23 before the night was done.

so should i keep at d2, or start baulder?

reason i started d2 again was cuz i was inspired by that guy who found the bow, and similar bows have been sold for like a grand on egay.

Baldurs Gate all the way. It's a *real* RPG.

Diablo (1 or 2) is a watered down RPG for those with attention deficeit disorders.

diablo 2 is more fun for me
my barb is up to lvl 86 and my paladin is lvl 72 right now
but don't play it just to try to find stuff to sell
that ruins the fun of it

well yeah, im no where near close to finiding anything to sell, just gave me an excuse to fire it up again, and no way ill play on open bnet again, WAY too many cheaters, down to the very last one.

heck after level 35 or so, even i submitted to trying to edit my character on open, to my surprise and a good lesson learned, the file was corrupted, and i lost my dude.

I like games with stories and keep you coming back.

Diablo is ok.. If I want pure hack and slash kickass fun I'll play Gauntlet Legends

yeah 3 ppl guantlet legends on dc is fun, but 2 extra players arent always around, bnet community or bg always have peeps online.

i prefer diablo 2, its not much of an RPG, but it is fun.

I've never played the original, only Diablo 2.

How different is it? And if I like D2 so much, should I invest in the first one?

well, just cause in d2, you can avoid cheating, makes it a huge advantage over the original. there are 4 worlds, as compared to one in the original. 21 quests, new weapons, and the original only had 3 i think character as opposed to 5.

They are very different games, I enjoy both but I prefer the Baldur's Gate series. Much better storyline and definitely more of a pure RPG while maintaining a good level of action. Diablo is fun but more action-oriented, and can get a little repetitive at times.

Both are good games... personal preference as to the gameplay is what determines which is "better" to you, IMO.

Amongst current RPGs, Might & Magic VIII (even though VI was even better)!

Between those two mentioned in the title, Baldur's Gate.

BG is better than Diablo IMO.

Might and Magic is sweet and one of the most enjoyable RPGs i've played recently.

diablo is an adventure game. still fun, but not an rpg. i don't even call final fantasy RPGs anymore, they are waaay to scripted. actually, i consider UO to be the most true RPG, since there is no script. neverwinter nights should be good too.

BGII is better put together and has better graphics than D2. So I'd recommend BGII. You can always pick up on D2 again at a later date.

TG: IMO opinion, the original Diablo was better than D2, but if you have already played D2, you might not enjoy Diablo as much. Diablo's a smaller game, more simplified, and the graphics are about the same. What I miss from the original Diablo are the pack of acid spitters that would be sitting around a corner. You never knew what hit you. I also liked the hiddens, which would materialize out from under the floor and suddenly surround you. Plus the ending is a lot more intense with the original. In D2, you go at it 1 on 1 with Diablo. In Diablo, there's Diablo and about a hundred mages all firing off fireballs at you, not to mention the death knights. Some of the uniques were cooler too, like the "Gotterdammitsdark" properly know as the Gotterdamerung helm. Very nice helm, but it did -2 to light radius. When voyaging through hell, it was really hard to see wearing that thing.

<Edit> if you do try the original Diablo, don't play it on bnet. Wayyyy too many hacks and pkers there. Not to mention autokill =(

BGs are better then Diablos. I have all four games and beaten all cept BG2. BG2's improvement over the first one is absolutly wonderful. Diablo2 and 1 were both ok first time around, but after that i didnt want to play it over again because of no story in general.

I have both Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate 2, and Diablo II. I would have to say DiabloII was fun in the beginning, but it got to be TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much hack and slash by the time I hit level 48 (and I was even a sorcereress, I mean cast static field 5 times..... blizzard...FO them, and then blizzard again...). The Baldur's Gate series gives SOO much room for replayability, with many sidequests and so many different options for characters and alignment.

Diablo II: No cheats, fun gambling, fun to play, good storyline, fun to mess around in, Battle.net, good Rares system, good skills and stat system. Sure, it's a bit watered down compared to a &quot;real&quot; RPG, but it's FUN! Fun is what is important, as well as still being an RPG, which Diablo II is .

I was never very impressed with D2 but BG is incredible. It's just as customizable as D2, you can add characters/items/spells/etc. and it's so varied. You can play through the game as each class and get a different game each time.. the subquests can be different for all classes and alignments and its just long.. I love it. It's like an epic. Upon completion of BG I was stunned, I just really enjoyed the game. Then I picked up BG II, even better, well worth it. Totally cool game and great improvements from the first. I recommend both BG's very much. Also the Tales of the Sword Cost add on from interplay and the Dark Side addon that you can find on the web.

D2 was like D1 with slightly better graphics. Thats it. Sure it had some enhancements but BG2 was way better...although a seperate type of game.

 

Baldurs gate 2 is rather good as well.
I have not played the first, but have been jamming on the second one.
Its definate striaght up AD&amp;D, all the classes and combonations of chars make it very complex. As well as a intricate story line, with about 3984723897 side quests.
Diablo is definalty more of a adventure game then an rpg, they both have their good and bad qualities.
