vim is the way and the light. Follow it and ye shall find enlightenment (not that crappy WM).

I respect emacs, but it is too big and bulky for my tastes. I prefer to stick with an editor that you can use ANYWHERE.

A guy at work said it best:

<< Vi is like your ugly girlfriend. She isn't the hottest chick in town, but she is always there when you need her. >>

Yeah, I guess anything but the vacuum of space is bulky compared to vi.

Some people have more important things to do than learn dozens of cryptic keyboard shortcuts.

Haven't used emacs yet, but pico is pretty cool

Emacs is great for nice heavy coding sessions. For any quick stuff though I usually use xedit. And i just use pico for telneting in, but I usually only do that to initiate a remote session from another machine on my own Linux box.

You can always be assured that whatever unix flavor you work on, there will be vi.

So, vi.....:)

What the hell, so many pico users... ah well, wouldn't expect many UNIX gurus in anandtech forums anyways.

vim, of course. you CAN'T do serious editing with pico.. pico was written as part of a mail reader (pine), so it was never intended to be a decent text editor. it is extremely limited, and only recommended to UNIX newbies who only know windows.

this poll is a duplicate, I did it before but did not include pico because it does not count in my opinion.

vi is the only editor to use you can find run it on any system. If you don't like vi try e, what vi is based on.
