I love many of the artists listed, but I've got to go with Marvin Gaye. He had a unique and amazing voice, and his songs ran the gamut from love songs to party songs to sociopolitical commentary. His death was one of music's great tragedies IMO. :music::brokenheart:

Stevie Wonder would be in second for me, he had so many great songs but he also had many insipid ballads.
 
Smokey Robinson, hands down. He wrote so many great songs of that era. Including many that the some of the other artists you listed made famous.

smokey has a great voice. Tears of a clown is one of my favorites.
