Go try that and see how that works out for you. Just don't use a bail bond when you get arrested, that's credit and we all know credit is evil.

You'd likely be shot dead.

You disable an officer don't be surprised if he shoots you.

If not, there's a door for y'all. It has a short plank, they make you pull your pants down, insert your penis in a thing called a chinese finger wire puller, attach the other end of the wire rope to a bulkhead and you take a walk. :D

Taken word for word from the OP, I'll take the 'Leave When Ordered' option, followed by the 'Night Stick' option, followed by the 'Pepper Spray'.

Sorta seems like this is somewhat in reference to some recent news articles, though, in which case I'd have to choose 'None of the above' because the police were not giving a lawful order at all, but rather choosing to violate an amendment right of the constitution, which seems to not be a big deal to a lot of people, for some reason. :/

but seriously, as a person that has been exposed to tear gas (basic training, US Navy)
that is some weak sauce pepper spray for them to just sit there

if they were hit with the tear gas they used on us in boot camp, there is NO way the hippies would just sit there while john pike casually hosed them down

I LOVED tear gas training in the danish army, we always begged our staffsergent to give us a couple of cans and unlock the gas chamber, when we had some free time.

we made a competition out of it, see who could stay in there the longest without puking, who could do the most push ups while being sprayed in the face etc. male bonding at its finest.

Pepper spray isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Yeah, it hurts but you can still function if you want to bad enough. Little water and five minutes and your good to go. Taser is even easier, five seconds and it's over with.

Yeah, I have had the pleasure of both.

awesome, glad you enjoyed it
i'll go with this order with regard to stamina to military grade tear gas

danish army > us navy > california hippies with no training

Apparently these are the only two options? If I'm seated on the ground and not actively resisting I would hope that the cop has sufficient training to not require either. It would take me less than 30 seconds to subdue someone who was not offering any resistance via a blood choke. Minimal risk of permanent injury and it actually renders the person unconscious. Maybe police need to start taking grappling lessons.

Standard police procedure is to have 5 police on each protestor - 1 cop for each limb, 5th cop tying their hands with plastic ties. OP is a fucking moron to think 'pepper spray' and 'being beaten' were the only two options.

As for refusing to disperse, it is unlikely that you will get either if you simply leave or offer to be arrested. Attempting to resist or verbally insulting the officers will result in a forcible action. This type of resistance is not what is considered peaceful, and anyone engaging in such should not expect to be treated with respect.
Most, if not all, people that are claiming police brutality don't understand this point, and probably never will.

I am eagerly awaiting the happy day when some visionary soul integrates a tazer with an xBox controller.

You're talking about the one that if done wrong, can cause death or brain damage? I was specifically told/trained to not use that due to excessive risk.

Why did you include the 3rd option of leaving when ordered? That throws off your original question/poll of pepper spray or getting beaten down.

OK tough guy. there's a reason choke holds aren't allowed by cops in most departments now, because it can kill someone. IT used to be in Dallas PD's repitoire, after several people were choked out and died, it stopped being a viable alternative. For cops AND criminals, hands off methods such as tear gas, OC spray and tazer is the safest way for a physcial confrontation.
All of those saying they'll take the beating, try taking an ASP baton to the side of your knee. A sufficiently strong enough or angry enough swing will shatter your knee. They're supposed to aim for soft spots, ie thighs, ect, but when limps are flailing, aim goes out the window.

I'll take getting OC'ed over a beating any day. I've been hit with some nasty pepper spray and it sucks, but I've also been hit with an ASP when it managed to find a crease in the pads I was wearing for training. 1 hit from that was more than enough to know I wouldn't want to get several whacks with it, because that's what you're going to get.
Tasers suck, because you get the darts stuck in you and they can zap you again.

The moral of the story is, if you want to protest, do it peacefully. Don't sit in streets. You havea right to be heard addressing your grievence. You do not have a right to disrupt or block others from their lawful movements.
