pen, looks better it seems, looks much more professional

but most writing is now done by keyboards it seems like...

I prefer a keyboard, myself :p. Voice recognition would be nice, but only if it's accurate. Given only your two choices though, I'd take a pencil. I'm one of those people who will write something down, not like how it looks/sounds, and go back and change it five or ten minutes later. Sometimes multiple times. Besides, my hand sometimes gets ahead of my brain, and I end up writing something that makes absolutely no sense :p. Times like these deffinitely call for an eraser.

I prefer to use pens for general use. (Zebra ball point pens only) For my note taking, general calculating or doodling, I use a mechanical pencil exclusively. The only time I break out the regular pencil is... never! :p

I can't stand pencils. Prefer a black pen. Even on my calc tests, I'd use a pen and simply put a line through mistakes I made and then move on right underneath it.

(I vote for red pen when proofreading and making changes. Black pen for anything else.)
