The way the pre-built market is going, though, the advantages of building yourself are rapidly diminishing.

The people who build will be matched by the ferengi (present company included) who try to get insane deals from dell, and thus, have prebuilt comps.

edit: now that i have seen the poll, i might be wrong.

2 dells, one costed well over $2000 (that was my newest comp in 6 years at the time)...one costed $1000...and a $300 homebuilt p4 2.2 here.

Just in case you do "real" research sometime in the future, surveys like this will be completely invalid in terms of proving any points you may have.

you didn't read the whole thread did you? read the 4th poll in the thread. Besides you have no idea what his point is... It may be that if you post a thread on a hardware forum about research, 10% of the responses will be that your research does not support your point despite the fact that the point is not posted
