<< Wait a minute. Does that make sense? "not everyone on a starship is going to be thrilled about encoutering hostile alien races"? First off, the whole idea of launching the enterprise is for exploration. So wouldnt there be some sort of training or personality criteria to be on this mission? I agree with the guy who said shes too much of a whiner. For someone whos job is to communicate with aliens then shes the absolute worst person you can have on board. (mind you, i wouldnt be this critical if she was hot but they managed to find the standard asian. Just as plain and typical as Ensign Kim.) >>

Actually, she didn't volunteer to go on the mission (1st ep) but the captain convinced her to go. The whole episode was about her freaking out about how she is dealing with the pressure. Think of it as stage fright. People make livings performing for live audiences, but, many of them experience stage fright getting in front of the crowd. It happens.

Okay, so if thats right then its a huge mistake in judgement on the captains side. The enterprise is the first major exploration vessel and his top choice for cultural communication is a school teacher? If the enterprised launched in 2010 then i doubt they would start looking for a crew 2 weeks before launch. It just seems like the future has no skills on preparing itself for interplanetary exploration.
And considering that the captain has the amazing ability to jump back and forth between different dimensions then you'd think he'd know better.
