I've always said it "Speck Vee" but my roommate called it a "Speck Five" the other day and I said, "Woah! I've never even thought of saying it like that!" So which is it?

I knew you'd be in here, but I didn't think it'd be so fast! :D Do you have any proof?

here is why:

in japan, they have the v-spec skyline gt-r

v-spec is short for victory specification.

the se-r is supposed to be loosely modeled after the skyline, but since they couldnt use v-spec, and tarnish its reputation with the skyline (since the spec v doesnt meet the same v-spec requirements as the skyline) they just switched it to spec - v.

specificiation: victory.

something along those lines at least.

hmm, that's interesting. I'll still leave up the poll just to see whether anybody else calls it the "Spec 5". I'll have a good laugh at my roommate when he gets back.

Remember, in Japan, "Spec-V" refers to "Victory spec". Victory spec was once reserved for only the most elite motoring and touring cars--these were derivatives of actual LeMans or Formula winners. The "V" meant that this car was closest to actual track racing specifications (though now it doesn't mean sh!t.)

I don't remember what "Type R" meant but I think "R" means "Racing". Whatever the case, "V" is better than "R" and hence "V" stickers cost more! :p

Why the hell would it be called "vitory spec" in japan, since when is thier primary language English? Shouldn't it be the (insert wierd character that my PC cant decipher here) spec?

I'd say the SVT Focus, albeit slower, an overall better car. Focus = tuned by SVT. Spec-V = spare performance parts.

American culture has had a huge influence on Japan in recent years, and naming / describing products with English has a better impact in the market and a product's ability to sell.
