This review shows the x700 Pro usually beating the Geforce 6600 GT with modern games like earth 2160, gt legends, panzer elite, scooter war3z and x3 reunion! :Q

FINAL COMMENT - "The Sapphire Hybrid x700 Pro and MSI NX 6600 GT both perform within 1% of each other when using 3dmark benchmarks. The most important results are the game benchmarks and this is where the Sapphire Hybrid x700 Pro pulls out a 6% advantage over the MSI NX 6600 GT. There was some game results which clearly show that certain games favour either ATI or Nvidia but overall the Sapphire Hybrid x700 Pro and MSI NX 6600 GT both delivered playable results with ALL of the games tested!"

when the 6 series were around nothing ATI came out with rivaled Nvidias midrange in price/performance. 6600gt to be exact was the best value money could get.
 
I've had my 6600gt (AGP) for about a year and 3 months. It has been a great card. I play FarCry Single player with all settings on very high, AF on 16x (via the forceware control panel) and AA maxed out via ingame settings and 1024x768 at about 50 FPS average.

It also plays Doom 3 on high, Area 51 maxed out, BF2 at all medium settings with 2X AA with decent (40-50 FPS average depending on the map).

For it's time, I'd give it a 4. it wasn't the best card out there (6800gt and x850xt hold that title) but it was by far the best mid-range card. Nothing else could come close for the money.

Edit: I paid 139.99 After rebate from Newegg for mine. It's the Leadtek flavor, which I read was the best as far as cooling goes. Performance-wise they were all pretty much neck-in-neck.

I ended up putting the Zalman vf-700 alcu on it anyways after a year. It started to peak at 90C which is way too hot. After the Zalman, it's never gone above 60, and rarely peaks over 50
 
Actually the best you could get was a 6800 ultra on the green team or and x850xt pe on the red team. the x850xt pe was clearly the better card at the time though (sm3 withstanding). the 6600gt is a nice little card, but where it really bogs down is when you raise the resolution above 1024x768 or 1152x864 with high detail on new games (and even a few older ones).
 
It was a good midrange card when it came out. Now, however, there are faster and cheaper cards available for pci-e, and for agp it's overpriced just like the majority of agp cards are.

Yeah i see people now trying to sell 6600GT's for $140.00 in FSFT forums. They shouldn't do that though IMO but they are getting harder to find - and if i were actaually looking for something along those lines i would just get the X1600XT for PCIe or X1600 Pro for AGP (maybe the 7600GS) as you can get them for less than 6600GT's FSFT now.
 
I love my 6600GT but i'm considering to upgrade in the next few months.
My budget definately will not allow a high-end card but...
I'm on the "green team" but I am amazed at the specs on the X850XT (PE as well).
I was thinking of temporarily using a card from the "red team".
With the AMD/ATI alliance....Being an Intel guy, I would want to stay on the "green team" in the long run.
Here is my situation...

I have ordered my new processor (D 915), motherboard (ASRock 775Dual-VSTA) and hard drive (WD Caviar 250 GB, 16MB, SATA II).
The motherboard carries full AGP support but the PCIe support is only 4x.

Now...If i were to buy an X850XT (or PE)...
1. What performance loss would I get running it at PCIe 4x instead of PCIe 16x?
2. What performance difference would I see running it at PCIe 4x over AGP 8x?
 
Well, just FYI CheeX, a 7600GT (especially overclocked) will match and even EXCEED the performance of an X850XT/PE. At stock clock speeds of 560/1400, benchmarks have shown it roughly equal to a X850XT. With some overclocking, say, to 600/1560 😉, it is more than a match for the XT PE.

Also the 7600GT uses less power, runs cooler/quieter, and supports new technology like Shader Model 3.0.
 
That's all true but the difference i've seen is that:

X850XT : 7600GT
Pixel Pipelines = 16 : 12
Memory Interface = 256-bit : 128-bit

1. How will this really affect performance?
2. Can I achieve that OC (600/1560) on stock cooling? If not, how high on stock?
 
Mine is great, 585/1145 rock steady...

but my 9800 pro outgunned it in farcry with 2xAA, i'll never forgive it for that 😱

The Vf700 Cu i put on it dropped the load temps from mind-fsckingly dangerous to quite safe (~95'C to ~60'C load), but didn't do anything for my oc really 🙁
 
You can't just look at specifications, you have to look at real-world benchmarks...and in real-world gaming benchmarks the 7600GT is dead even at reference nVidia speeds with teh XT.

Also, I bought my 7600GT from eVGA. I got the KO model with a better all copper heatsink and it came factory overclocked at 580 MHz/1500MHz. I used the 84.21 drivers to find optimal overclock (which was 608/1622) and then backed down a bit to get 600/1560. Yes, it's on the stock heatsink, although I did apply ceramique to it. My temps are pretty good also, 50C at idle and doesn't go much over 60 at load.
 
Gigabyte is a good brand (someone I know has a 6600GT from them), but I don't know how well the passive heatsink will work on that model, and I would lean toward eVGA for their lifetime warranty that covers just about everything, including overclocking and whatever else you may want to do to your card 😉

What is the OVERALL BEST card i can get for under $200?
