Let's see what you think of this little beast.

BTW: I'm not going to vote in this poll but i would give it a 5.
It has worked extremely well for me.

it was a killer midrange card when it came out, beating out the old top end and its competition the 9800PRO X700PRO

still does very well, i enjoy it ... my most expensive card i bought even o_O (290CDN)

Great card for the price (way back when), still performs decently, and good at overclocking! :)

That was BITD. Today Newegg has the eVGA 7600GS AGP in stock for $159.

Yup, back in the day of the 6 series it was a good midrange card. Faster than the 9800XT.

Bought a Dell 2005FPW earlier this year. I was also going to get a 7600GT about the same time to upgrade from my PCIe Leadtek 6600GT so I could game at full resolution. However, I decided to just get the FPW and wait a while until 7600GT prices fell under $150 without rebate.

Well I still have my 6600 and don't plan to upgrade soon. It can run HL2, HL2-Episode 1, FarCry, Prey (Demo), and other games in widesceen by only cranking down the settings one notch. Even COD2 can run at 1440x900 with textures set to "High" instead of "Extra". Of course, I don't use AA but do run at 8AF. This might not be "acceptable fps" for everyone, but they run just fine for me!

At this rate I'll wait till Nvidia's next midrange card comes out. Since I have my laptop (see below) I have somewhat similar video power as a 7600GT.

Great card in it's day and still very good for most midrange games (1280x1024)!

The 6600GT is current the VoodooII of years ago. Cheap as dirt and a good preformer.

Was a great card at the time, and now the 7600GT has replaced it as absolutely the best BFB card available. Twice in a row for nVidia, come on ATi! (I'm not an nVidia fanboy, actually this is the first nVidia card I've owned. I'm just stirring the pot :))

Difference is of course the interface and the stock speeds.

AGP:
Core - 500 MHz
Memory - 900 MHz

PCIx:
Core - 500 MHz
Memory - 1000 MHz

The reason for the slower memory on the AGP card is due some more complex circuitry than the PCIx version.
Well that's what i read.

I had a 6600GT for a while, but decided to sell it and jump ship to PCIE. My new card was the same price, but muchfaster. I give it a 3.

Save your money for 7600GS/GT AGP.

Although the 6600GT AGP was indeed a very good card, the new mid range offerings blow away the previous gen. A 7600GT is twice as fast as a 6600GT if not three times in some situations. A 7600GS is twice as fast as a 6600 non GT.

I would rate the 6600GT AGP a 4 back in the days, but now its a 3.

How does the 6600 GT AGP stack up against games like Oblivion, FEAR, and BF2 in 1024x768 resolution with some eye candy on?

I would give the 6600GT a 4, even though I've never owned it. I've seen the benchmarks in games, and I've seen that it can play at 1024*768 in all games, except for oblivion, and that's with all the settings(except for AA and AF) turned up, AFAIK. Turn off some settings, especially shadows, and it performs even better.

It was a great little card, and still is if you have a CRT - becuase you can scale back resolution to to play the newest games.
