Here are a few that I have come up with:

Mobile Computing - Laptops, PDA's, Internet phones, wireless, etc
Internet - Anything related to the net, ie, webcams, hosting, e-com, etc
IT - Deployment, management, infrastructure, etc
Audio - Flame war about Paradigm vs. Bose:D
None - Its fine:D

Throw ideas below and I'll add them to the polls

Don't need any more. I hate when I go to a new forum and there are about 620 different sections. Just damn confusing.

If you want specialty forums (i.e. audio) there are better dedicated ones for that.

I'm with "no more" people. firstly because we already have catagories for some of what you are talking about. Software is where programming q's are supposed to go, the internet is just networking on a large scale.

As for the other topics, they don't apply to this site. like kami said, there are better websites out there if you to talk about audio for you car or something. I don't understand why people keep showing up here and requesting anand put up forums that are competely unrelated to computers.

i think we should change general hardware to general technology, so we can put the internet one in there. mobile, maybe, being a laptop user i'd like it but laptops can probably go in general anyways. I still dont understand why we need both a cases and cooling forum, and a overclocking since they kinda go hand in hand. audio forum would be good though. the IT stuff probably can belong in highly technical.

I think the internet is quite different from networking. you do not deal with ecommerce and such with netorking. Networking to me is about LAN's and WAN. Although the internet is a bunch of WAN's connected to each other, it is an entire industry. Also, I dont see how mobile computing and IT isn't part of computers. Audio isn't about cars. I just felt there were too many audio threads in general hardware. I think making more catagories, while deleting others, is for the better. General hardware is just becoming a Intel vs AMD/Computer wont boot forum. Dunno, just my opinion so don't flame me:D Just threw a thought out there, and a place where I can get info about laptops:D

LOL @ damocles. I thought the whole point of neffin' is to drive up post count :D Yea, I thought a better way of ranking would be how long you have been a member + how many posts you have.

From the number of posts about the new Highly Technical forum, it appears we need a New Forum Forum. Users can post threads about new forums to start here on AT and start polls on new forum topics. Then, posting threads in any other forum about what new forums to start would be off topic and locked by mods.

Like another member's sig says, "Imagine a world without hypothetical situations".

The "Anandtech Forums Anonymous" forum.

People can come in and be like, "Hi. My name is Shy and... I have a problem."

and then everyone else will be like, "Hello Shy."

And then I'll be like, "I have an addiction... to these forums"

and then I'll break down and start to cry. And you guys will say nice things to me like, "it's okay, we don't get any work done either!" or "we're all nerds too!"

and I'll feel better.

What a great forum idea.
