A lot of my friends used to smoke and it didn't bother me then. Now I don't spend time with anyone who does so I always notice it now.

Smoking should be against the law and violators should be executed. Smokers belong on death row with the rapists and murderers... then they'll know what it's like!
Get beat up often as a child?

The only time smokers annoy me is if they're doing it in a confined PUBLIC space (meaning I don't care if they smoke in their house or car if I'm riding with them...its their place after all) or if there's a huge crowd of them standing outside the only or all of the entrences to a building (often next to the no smoking sign) lighting up and causing me to wade through a murky cloud of smoke trying to breath as I stumble towards the obscured doorway.

Ok, so that last one was a little melodramatic...but you know what I'm talking about 🙂

Hey, smokers have every right to smoke. But they should at least have the common courtesy to think about the people who choose not to smoke before lighting up

Damn, I'm going to go get a pack. When you smoke, you should imagine it as your mother's nipple when/if you were nursed as an infant. If you just read that, I planted the idea in your mind and watered it just now with a little reinforcement so you're less likely to forget. Gotcha. 😛

Frued.

The vast majority of smokers I know are considerate and polite. They know I've quit and can no longer tolerate the smell.

I also know that when I go into an establishment that allows smoking I have no right to force others to conform to my will. If I can't stand it, I will leave or not go inside.

They don't really bother me unless I am in a confined space with them. Also, if you smoke while I am trying to eat. It really pisses me off when my food tastes like Camel lights.

It all depends.

For instance when I was in college and now at work I do not go outside and hang out with the smokers when they take a smoke break. However if we go to a bar I don't mind if one of my buddies lights up; being in a bar and all.

I do think that a lot of cities are over-reacting by banning smoking in all public places. I am not a smoker and those ordinances drive me crazy, as well as those damned anti-smoking "Truth" television adds. Freaking hippies with too much time on their hands.

Yes, yes, and forever yes.

Inconsiderate smokers are some of the worst people in the world IMO. I've had to leave resteraunts and a few other public places because the cigerette smoke was so bad I started getting sick from it. Most smokers I've seen are very stereotypical. Smoke right in front of entrances to public places if they can't smoke inside. They will smoke inside if they can. Throw the butts down on the ground, sometimes smashing them out, then walk off. I've seen plety of butts go flying out car windows too. They don't even have to be smoking inside some public place to disgust others, heavy smokers will always smell like smoke. Or worse, smoke and some cologne/perfume they doused themselves in to cover the smoke. And last but not least, ya gotta love the people who smoke in the car. I had to go on a road trip with my in-laws once, my wife, myself, and my wifes younger brother were all hacking away in the back seat of their SUV because they were both smoking. I complained, and my mother in law simply cracked her window. (But hey, in-laws are like that for a reason. 🙂 )

smoking annoys me a lot. 2nd hand smoke = bad. Do smokers realize they can give someone else cancer?

Tell me, how often do you protest having to drive behind diesel trucks?

While the case for ETS causing cancer is highly questionable (Link Link), the case for diesel exhaust causing cancer is not. Diesel exhaust is far more carcinogenic than environmental tobacco smoke and in much smaller doses.

It's amazing how one will expose themselves to carcinogens on a daily basis in amounts that are KNOWN hazards and ignore them while fanatically protesting occational and miniscule exposure to ones that are highly questionable in exposure amounts far higher than they will ever see.

It only bothers me if they are discourteous and blow smoke towards me. The vast majority I've ever been around ar concientious enough to direct their exhale elsewhere.

so you are saying that second smoke is not a health hazard and that we non-smokers should be aware of it and avoid it? Yes, it may not be as bad as diesel exhaust but it's still harmful.

To say ETS is harmful is to contradict the majority of studies done on its effects. To claim OCCATIONAL, MINIMAL exposure is harmful is to contradict almost all the studies done on it. Most of the small minority of studies that do find harm, find only a small increase in cancer among people who live with heavy smokers. I highly doubt you'll see even a week's worth of their exposure in your entire life.

Remember, the danger of a carcinogen is not _any_ exposure, it's the duration and AMOUNT of exposure. And the studies prove that while ETS may be a carcinogen, the duration and amount of exposure most people see is not enough to cause cancer.

Smoking really ticks me off. Especially when people light up around you, knowing you don't like it. I also hate when they have the nerve to smoke in MY car. WTF are they thinking?

If you have people smoking in your car against your will, you have bigger problems than smokers. You need to grow a pair and learn how to assert yourself. No one I know would dare light up in my car. I don't have to scream and yell, or even threaten. They just know better.

The same with my house. I have never had anyone light up in my home. I've had a couple ask politely, and graciously step outside when I said "no."

I blow smoke all over you. My Wizards robe stinks horribly.

that's funny, what's wrong with you? 😛

I am the outcast of the sheep, so I get the silent treatment? Why is the fold closing off?

Certainly it does, which is why I was dissapointed last time I went bowling. Back home(I'm at college right now), there was a law against smoking at bowling alleys, so bowling was never a problem. However, where I am now(Indiana), there isn't such a law, so it was really anoying; the stench of smoke on my clothes once I got back to my room was really unplesant(enough so that I immediately washed said clothes so I wouldn't have to smell it). Sufficive to say, I'm not going to be bowling around here again, which is a shame because I enjoy it.😱
