Poll: Nixon or Clinton... who was the worst American President?

Dispassionate judgement of either man will probably have to wait until emotions fade with time. In any case, they leave us with a few lessons:
Never proxy hire inept burglars,(note the visible tape on the door in the Watergate Hotel)and never tape your conversations for the record.
If you are powerful and have a public persona to maintain, never pork indiscreet bottom-feeder women. JFK got trophy back and did not get busted. Willie failed to follow his idols example, unless his idol was actually Ted.

I think I have come up with the idea of why republicans say that Clinton is the worst president. Clinton left office with the highest approval rating of any modern president, so their plan is to try and make him look bad so people wont like him as much. Nice try, Clinton was the man.

Tominator
LMAO --Reagan the best president?!?
Obviously you are living in the Limbaugh fog!

Clinton was not the best president, as a matter of fact I believe that his direct dishonesty to the American people cost him that honor -- but at least he wisely, and conservatively, carried us through the greatest prosperity our nation has ever enjoyed.

But if you want to talk about "Slick Willie" sometime, perhaps you'd also like to talk about "Slick Ronnie" also. I seem to recollect his lack of recollection about the entire "Iran-Contra" debacle. Or perhaps you just want to grant him a little pre-Althzeimer's selective memory loss?

theBestMax,

I was there for Nixon's presidency, I don't know why you think he was beloved. He was despised by a majority of American's, especially when the investigation revealed Nixon was a petty man. Vindicitive, controlling, and I'd even say paranoid. America learned a bitter lesson about the man they had elected... and about how a politician can portray themself. No, if Carter hadn't done such a bad job handling the country following Ford, it would have been many years before the public could trust a Republican to lead the nation again.

Clinton, is an immoral man, no doubt there. I used to defend Clinton, but no more. You see, I don't care where he sticks his wicket, but I do care about how the country is running under him. If the president wants to poke fat interns, then let him. None of my damn business. However, the recent Rich pardon has pushed me over the edge on the matter. I won't defend him anymore.

Still...

Nixon betrayed the country with his actions, in such a way that there was no chance for forgiveness. With the exception of the Rich pardon, Clinton's offenses could be dismissed since they really just embarassed himself. So Nixon is no doubt still the worst president.

Grant wasn't a bad president. Grant was a very good man, but there was an enormous amount fraud in government at that time. Boss Tweed in NY comes to mind. But it wasn't really his fault.

No, has to be Nixon. Easily. Sorry Repubs, but that's the truth.

ford might just have been elected had the media not portrayed him as an idiot on the order of dan qualye. ford was nobody's fool. its nice to see that lots of people apparently don't care if the media portrays cndidates as fools anymore.

hey guess what guys, FDR was getting some on the side too! (actually, since thats probably all he was getting, is it really on the side?) thats right, he was outright sleeping with his secretary all night! and no one gave a rat's @ss! and his wife? she was sleeping with someone else too! a female reporter, no less! we should drag both of them through the mud. its amazing how much history changes when going from high school history books to college history books.

NOw, now, Kosugi, Dont make me go all RED DAWN on you. What you say is true AT THE END of his term but how could he have been elected by the biggest landslide ever (to date) if he haddnt been popular. People then learned what he was and punished him maybe a little too harshly. Can we say the same for billy c and his gang. I was there for Nixon too. Joined the service under Kennedy and was then stuck with Johnson. If it wasnt for him and his "Great Society" plan we might be living on the moon and Mars and the human race might have a chance of surviving. WORSE PRESIDENT for long term effects - JOHNSON.

Just embarrassed himself???? I was embarrassed to have him represent me for 8 years and took it as a slap in the face for the entire military service.

I dont know about you but I dont like the rest of the world laughing at us. At least with Bush we have an ADULT in the White House and not a bunch of snieviling wimps stealing keyboard Ws and leaving fost food trash all over.
