both are way cheap, both seem to do a ton - but I'm torn.

while the smc has more features (print server, port forwarding/rangin...)I understand the it's wicked finicky with DSL w/o an assigned static IP. (IE: Earthlink DSL)

whadayathink???

can ya help a brother out???

Obviously I'm new to this so if I sound like I'm on drugs please set me straight. 🙂

thanks!

I did! 🙂 Before this post no less.

Still don't see a reason to go with the SMC considering the potential probs.

Still don't see a reason to go with the RT314 conidering the SMC has more features.

I like the SMC. I had the Linksys before too but I liked the print server on the SMC. The only problem I had at first was getting on to MIRC. After that, everything is fine.

The linksys is crap. The netgear is great, but limited features. The smc is loaded with features and cost the same. Buy.com has it for $110. Im going to order there with a coupon for teachbargains.

MUFFSTAH...

Since you have SMC setup, I know it does Printer sharring and Cable Modem sharing...but will it also allow the powered on computers to do file sharing? I use Wingate now.

TIA

Ok changed my mind. Now that amazon has free shipping on the netgear I can pm to staples and use the coupon so its only $85. Buy.com I was wrong on price it would be $117 for me shipped. So there is a $30 price diffrence. The netgear is still good, lacks some featres, but for $30 I dont care. I own a bay networks switch and im happy with the company, so I trust the netgear.
