Poll: Neo2 Platinum/PSU combo's

I've been reading about issues with this MB and Antec PSU's. I am also having problems very similar to others, and I am using a brand new TruPower 380W (24A@+12v). I would like to know if this is a real issue (Antec does admit to a problem with some Abit MB's), or just a coincidence. If you had/are having issues with this MB, please post it here.

MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum, Antec True550, running OCed and with a heavy load 24/7...

No PSU issues here. I think most of the issues are because the user is inexperienced.

If I had a Neo 2 Platinum, I'd use an Antec NeoPower, but the TruePower series ought to work. I've never heard of this issue before. By the way, make sure you amend your BIOS settings to have an integer multiplier number. The Neo 2 Platinum comes pre-overclocked to 11.5x multiplier, if I am not mistaken. This may cause stability problems or hardware compatibility issues.

Wish I could tell you more, but I really have never heard of this problem. Antec is good for its money, though, so just RMA if you really, really have problems with the combination.

Good Luck.

Along with threads at ocforums, msi forums, xtremesystems forums, and many others.

It IS a real problem, and one that is NOT due to user error 😛 This particular poll is aimed at trying to find the people out there using Antecs with Neo's and NOT having problems - because others do have problems, whats the similarities & differences? Is it a batch or two of Neos?

Edit: I should say I have had this problem, my motherboard quit working because of it.

Well, I have a True430 I can also try with this board. I'll try it later and get back to ya.

BTW This is what I mean by a heavy load. 16th post down. 😉

I have a Neo2 Platinum and it wouldn't boot with a True380 I bought a couple years ago. I bought a new True430 and it works just fine. BTW the old True380 said on the side (I think) 18A@12V.

Did it not even boot the first time you tried with the 380W?

Nope no response at all.

I'm using an MSI Neo2 Platinum (939) mobo with the 380 TruePower that came with my Antec Sonata case. I bought the components at the end of November, and built the system in December. They've worked fine as far as I can tell...I'll keep my fingers crossed, I guess.

Do you ever shut it down for several hours at a time, such as overnight? If so, ANY problems on restart?
I'm curious if the "cold" start is what is causing the problems.

Try that and then let it sit overnight. Let us know if it "cold" starts.

Well, I tried it with the True430. (I didn't hook up all 6 drives. I just left the Raptors hooked up) No problems. I let it sit for about 20 minutes before I booted it. However, it cannot stay off the entire night. That isn't an option.

The True430 I tried is about a year old, so it doesn't look like Antec has changed anything. Perhaps MSI did some minor changes to the board w/o changing the MB revision?

The longest I've let it sit shut-off (and not on standby) is about a day and a half, and there were no noticible problems starting up, as far as I could tell.

Ive use a dual rail Enermax Coolergiant 480W PSU and now use a Fortron/Sparkle FSP550 single rail PSU...had no issues with either PSU.

This is interesting. It seems at least some people are not having problems with their Antec. Bump for more votes/replies.

Could be Antecs don't have enough peak power to start everything up. And from reading the ad for the PC Power and Cooling PSU....

http://www.performance-pcs.com...787137be5e1016a1b0d29f

It could vary just on room temperature. It could explain why it happens off and on. On cold boots the system needs a heck of a lot of power to fire up the hardware.

It's because all of that and more I'm going to get that monster. If it won't boot with rock solid 650watts, it ain't going to boot!

That's a good point. While not all of the problems seem to orginate after a cold start, many do.

And SirOblivious, how may amps does your PSU have on the +12V rail.

This is a good point. I've seen on the MSI forum and others that they recommend you have a power supply with at least 22A on the 12V line for rock solid performance. This is recommended for all socket 939 nforce3 motherboards. I've been using an Antec TrueBlue 480W (28A on 12V) for three months and have not experienced these issues. This is with a 17% overclock.

I recommend checking your power supply for current on the 12V rail. Antec upgraded all of their power supply models this year to have more amps on the 12V so as long as you purchased your ps this year you should have plenty of room. The True380's that come with the Sonata used to have 18A on 12V. That has been upgraded to 22 or 24 this year.
