Today, I received $82 worth of merchandise. It is not what I wanted. It's neither my, nor the seller's fault; their pic of the product didn't indicate a certain feature, neither did their description, and I did not ask if said product had a certain feature.

They charge a 20% restocking fee, which 20% of $82 is roughly $16. It will cost me about $4 to send it back...a $20 loss.

Is it worth about 25% of the purchase price to get about $60 refunded to me?

I know that "only you can answer that question, Mike" but it's not really so simple...I think.

The product in question is a bunch of Keystones. They have no "snap on cover strain relief thingee cover." I think that's important. If I keep them, I won't use them...unless I run out of "good ones that I haven't bought yet."

This sucks.

What do you think?

I was gonna suggest that too. Or try a car forum.:) (I'm guessing it's a car part?)

EDIT: WTF are keystones?

Sometimes, you've just gotta take it like a man.

Or eGay (now, suddenly more apropos) it.

One of the two.

I didn't vote in your poll, and even after looking at the other thread briefly, I still don't understand the issue (why does a keystone jack need strain relief? Where's the strain?), but have you tried to work it out with the seller?

Can you persuade them to waive the restocking fee?

Do they sell the style you're actually looking for? Will you still incur a restocking fee if you exchange them, or maybe even buy a few more (say, 20% more) just to make them happy?

Or is there something else they sell that you need if you can persuade them to give you store credit for full value rather than a cash refund minus restocking fee?

If none of those options work, I'd probably still return the stuff and eat the fee if you feel you'll never use the items. After vigourously persuing the other options, of course.

I like your idea of "store credit." I do need a tester. AFAIK, they don't sell the strain relief ones, b/c out of all the keystones listed, there's no differences pointed out like "with strain relief/without strain relief."

I emailed them and asked them for an RMA already. I guess I can call and talk to them about store credit, minus the restocking fee.

Thank you for the suggestion. :)
