This is actually a somewhat serious poll, so if you dont have an opinion, dont mess up the results for the hell of it.
Alright, here's the deal. I moved out with my two best friends from college and in general its been great. No roomate fights or anything, we all get along just fine. But our lease is almost up, and we havent heard any talk of renewal yet so our living situation is a bit up in the air. Theres no doubt that if we move out we'll stick together.
We share a 3 bedroom apartment, and the rooms are vastly disproportionate in size. Not so much a problem because we staggered the rents a bit to make up for it, and everyones happy. The small room is just big enough to hold a twin bed, a desk, and two bookcases. The roomate with the middle room has a full bed and about the same furnitue, and the master bedroom has a queen bed, the works, and with plenty of room to spare. Its doubtful that the queen, or even the full could fit in the small room. Which leads to the main question:
If we get a new apt, what to do about the rooms? For impartiality's sake Ill leave out who is who.
Roomate A has the biggest room, and the hugest bed. However, his dad was paying his rent until just recently, and him paying the most amount of rent is pushing it, but so far he's surviving. He feels he absolutely needs the biggest room.
Roomate B is in the middle, and likes being in the middle, although he wouldnt mind moving up if the price is right. He's got a ton of savings so money isnt a problem, he just decided he liked the middle one best at the time.
Roomate C has the smallest room, which was chosen primarily on the fact that he wasnt positive exactly how much he would be making, but now that its all worked out he could just as easily afford the biggest room. He's starting to compain that things are getting a little cramped in his room, and is partially beginning to spill some boxes into the living room a bit, which is the nature of his work, and nothing can really be done about it.
B is thinking that he would rather have the biggest room, given the chance. C doesnt want to be in the small room anymore, and doesnt think its fair that he'd be stuck there because the other two roomates bought huge beds. A seems to be in a mood to save a little money now, but the huge bed is an issue.
So basically, what do you guys think? The beds are the main issue. Should that alone force everyone to keep the same rooms? Do you think the rooms should be decided randomly, or that each has already had their "turn", and shouldnt be allowed to hoard the large one or forced to stay in the small room?
That being said, our lease will more than likely be renewed, but thinking about it, I couldnt really come to a clear solution. And the obvious solution of getting an apt that everyone can fit into regardless of bed size isnt an option, every single apt we have seen had one huge room, one normal room, and one tiny room, and the realtor made it very clear that that was all that was out there.
Cliff notes:
3 guys live together, in a small, medium and large room, with corresponding beds.
Might be moving out, so what to do about the new rooms, especially because of the beds?
