I currently have a P3 650e cb0 @ 866 1.75....It does 880 1.75...when it has been offf for awhile i will do 900 1.8-1.85 but not stable...I am using a Golden Orb with artic silver...I will have an Alpha with 38cfm here tommorow...will my CPU have good chances @ 900 or Higher stable? is an alpha MUCH better than gorb? Any help is appreciated...:)

I also have a PIII-650 on a P3V4X. I am currently running it at 133Mhz which translates to an approximate 870hz @ 1.75 volts. I have pushed it as high as 916 and achieved what appeared to be stabile operation but I really didn't stress the system at all. BTW I had to increase voltage to 1.80 (if I remember correctly). I run an alpha cooler which provides an idle temp that is usually 1 degree above chasis temp. Right at this moment it is 27 degrees C. The alpha provided a temp improvement of about 5 degrees over the stock fan/heatsink allowing me to overclock about one step higher. Not much. I would be surprised if the alpha allows you to achieve any higher speeds over the golden orb.

Well it does 650 so not a bad chip, just not a particularly good overclocker. I know those people who have had better success with the 650 than myself and you will be outraged when I say this, but I don't feel the 650 is a tremendous overclocker. I believe most are probably capable of achieving high 800's but those that go over 900 with air cooling are few and far in between. I just put together a Duron 600 with a KT7 and easily achieved stabile 900+ speeds. This chip is not only much cheaper but appears to more consistently achieve higher speeds (on average) as well.

there are a lot of people with 650E's over 900. It isn't out of the ordinary. Mine does 975 @ 1.75 volts, CUSL2, Alpha Pal6035(or currently a Taisol SocketA heatsink).

I've seen plenty of 650's hit 936 or so. That's a 144 FSB(which isn't too much of a strain on a system).

I've been really lucky with the FCPGA 650 I purchased about a month ago. It's been running over 1 GHz ever since I put it in my MSI 815E Pro.

I also had an older slot1 650 cB0, but could only get that CPU to 910MHz stable in an Asus P3V4X.
