there's been threads discussing nail biting but so far I couldn't find a poll

also, do you know any females that bite their nails? I've met one, but they seem awfully rare... why does it seem only guys do it?

I'm trying to stop - I managed to stop for almost 7 months since this summer but lately I've been doing it again. Must be stress

seldom, but not in the fanatical way, just if I realize that one has gotten to long and no cutter is near.

I never do. The only time i'll bite them, is if i rip a nail a little bit when doing some work, i'd rip off the rest of it so it doesnt snag on things.

I guess guys are more nervous and are therefore more apt to bite their nails. I do it all the time but it doesn't add up though.
Most surveys say that girls have less self-esteem which(logicall) makes them more nervous and stressed when doing anything.(which should lead to biting their nails). But why then do they not bite their nails as much as guys? I'm so perplexed.

For me the killer is when my nail is not perfectly smooth, if the edge is a little rough it is just so annoying that I have to try biting off the roughness... so lately I've been carrying a nile file with me and it helps, my nailbiting is not as bad as it used to be but still I gotta put an end to this habit once and for all

maybe it does have something to do with the nail polish they put on, which gave birth to the idea of applying clear coat nail polish if you wanna stop biting nails? Haven't tried that and I don't really wouldn't want to try that unless as a last resort.

That's what I did. I figured it looked unprofessional and I should have unchewed nails, so I just stopped.

The initial stoppage was kinda hard, especially when I was driving. I chewed a lot of gum.

To this day, if they're even the slightest bit ragged, I'll tend to bite them. I try and keep them clipped so the temptation isn't there.

That's pretty much the same for me.

It was hard at first...but not as difficult as i had thought it was going to be. I chew a lot of gum anyway...so that made it easier.

man you don't know how lucky you guys are...

as MyBond said it probably does look pretty unprofessional not just to have chewed up nails but to see someone sticking their fingers in their month while sitting at the desk. And I bet I lose some productivity by biting my nails when the fingers should be typing code instead!
