I know this sounds stupid, but please vote and post your comments here if you have time.

I categorize the shortcuts by type. Like: Games, CD Burning, Windows Media, Desktop Utilities, Hardware Tools, Internet Tools, etc. It's neat and it's easier to access.

I don't think I've ever taken the time to actually categorize...maybe I should. Sounds interesting.

I always do mine the same: Programs contains all my Programs at the root, plus folders for Accessories, Games and Internet.

Mine Start Menu looks like this (folders with example shortcuts given):

  • Accessories - calculator, notepad, etc
Applications - apps that don't deserve a top level folder
Communication - DUN and >gulp< HyperTerminal
    Games - self-explanatory
Graphics - Paint Shop Pro and other graphic editing apps
Internet - all things 'net related
    MS Office - again, self-explanatory
Multimedia - QCD Player, Real, QuickTime, MusicMatch
Programming - Visual Studio, Java, Python, Perl
System Tools - Ad-Aware, regedit, winzip, defrag

And I use Q-sort to keep it all alphabetically ordered. :D

I've Audio Tools, which branches out to EAC, RazorLAME, WinAMP, and MP+ tools, Graphics Tools which houses various Adobe software and a cute program called EyeDropper which lists the color in hex for the pixel which the cursor hovers over, Games for all my games, Utilities for stuff like WinZIP and such, and Web Tools which has all my web stuffz :)
