[POLL] Motor Oil

Since all this talk about motor oil lets see what AT uses.

Currently in YOUR car what type of motor oil are you running?

What will you be using in your next Oil change?

This poll won't account for those of us who have more than one vehicle, and use different oil types in each vehicle.

For me though, Synthetic, but the regular Mobil Supersyn or sometimes Syntec. I'd love to be able to justify Royal Purple, Amsoil, or Schaeffer's, but the price and inconvenience of locating it just isn't worth it to me. I typically pay $5/qt or less for what I get.

In my daily driver F-150 I use Motorcraft 5W20 synthetic blend. It's actually less expensive than the Castrol GTX (regular dinosaur stuff) I'd been using for the past 9 years I'd owned the truck.

Without knowing the type of engine in the car, the poll doesn't really tell anything. You would need many more options.

Turbocharged Engine - Conventional
Turbocharged Engine - Synthetic
Non-Turbo Engine - Conventional
Non-Turbo Engine - Synthetic
Air-cooled Engine - Conventional
Air-cooled Engine - Synthetic

There are other choice options as well.

Car, synthetic. Truck, dino. Bike.., probably synthetic at the next change (used dino after the engine rebuild).

+1, Conventional Oil in the work van, Syn Blend in the Truck and Full Syn in the Z28.

The poll is not meant to be this complicated, just do you use it or not. Simple.

Simple, but worthless.

I use Mobil 1 and change it every 7500-8500 miles....which is about every 4 months for me...I drive an 01 Altima that has 153,000 miles on it......85% highway.
I had the valve cover off last month to change the gasket and its nice and clean in there...

2L Turbo'd engine - Full Syn from factory. 5w40

I have to use some approved VW oil standard to maintain warranty too...lol

I had a friend who bought a used BMW R1150R a few years ago with around 15k miles on it. The owner was running synthetic in it since it was new and when my friend took it to the dealer for inspection/service they told him to switch back to dino oil as the engine will not break in properly with synthetic oil. They recommended he run dino oil in it until it had about 25,000 miles on it.

I use dino oil in my motorcycle. I did the 600 mile service and since then I've been following the manufacturer's recommendations. I have about 7,000 miles on it now and coming up on another service soon.
