A friend of mine recently rented some movies from one of the larger movie rental chains...ends with buster :D

He rented 6 of them, but the person only rang up 3 of them. so essentially he rented 3 movies and the person checking him out handed him 3 free ones that were not rang in...

Keep 'em!

Once I went to Kentucky Fried Chicken and ordered a pop. Came to a dollar something and I gave the girl two dollars. She rang it up as $20 so I got $18 and change back. You can bet I hurried out of there as fast as possible grinning to myself the whole time.

Heh, nice. What a ding-a-ling (the guy who rang your friend up). I voted to keep the movies if they're any good. If they're not, did he rent VHS or DVD? If he rented VHS, he could splice a few bits from some cheap porn into it, then return the tapes. Heh heh heh. That oughta get SOMEBODY fired...

:D

Edit: Go to Hollywood Video instead. Way better than C***sucker Video, IMHO. The BB where my parents live is a particular hotbed of stupidity, I'll tell you that much.

Drop them in the drop box when you return the other movies. They get their movies back, no harm done.

No morality check necessary, it's common sense.

Exactly what I would do. Is that Option Two in the poll? If so, BB doesn't work that way, their inventory tracking is terrible. If this "friend" kept the movies, the last person to rent them (before him) would get hit with the fees. If the movies were returned (edit: just in the drop box, as they should be), BB probably wouldn't even notice. Can you add that to the poll?

If they were dvds I'd probably return them since some other bastard already scratched the hell outta them.

I would just turn them in and leave..because he shouldn't try to get anyone fired or keep the movies because they are not his.

they were dvd's, have not seen them but have rented 2 that were unwatchable because of all the scratches on them...Had one that looked like it had a big thumbprint of peanut butter on the widescreen side, had to watch the full screen...

Guess I had no morals, I told him to keep them....Les Miserables, Patton and something else

That's just not right. This type of activity can be traced back to the person who messed up, and belive me they got in SERIOUS trouble.

The videos could not be traced back, especially if he just dropped them in the return chute.

Two totally different issues on whether or not you keep the movies or whether you watch them and bring them back with the rest of your rentals. To be totally moral you should explain what happened, they aren't going to fire the person who rang you up over an accident. If you watch the movies and bring them back that is the next moral step down, but not a huge step, you'll still be OK in my book ;). But if you flat out keep the movies, that is just wrong. Anyone with a conscience and any sort of morals knows it is wrong and trying to justify it someway by saying they are overpriced and charge late fees is just plain stupid. IF you do that, you are just as bad as this jackhole about that stole money from KFC.....I hope you got sick from that soda.

I used to work at a blockbuster a few years back. They take inventory 3-4 times a year, complete, the full store. Thats when they will notice the videos missing.

If you return them in the drop box they will be scanned as returned, and the 3 extra movies will come up as NCO (not checked out), the manager will more than likely just have a small meeting and tell everyone to be more careful.

also: blockbusters prices are high because they pay an extremely high premium on their movies because they get them pre-release on dvd or video, sometimes as high at $90-120 a copy. If they cant get a pre-release license, then they pay the normal price, but 99% of the time, they pay way more than a normal customer would buy it for.

Reminds me of the local Bojangles here (Southern Fried chicken). Everytime i go through drive thru and pay with non-exact change I will either get more money back or less. I can count on one hand the number of times that I have gotten the correct change back. So far I think I am a couple of bucks ahead. I worked at the registers in Mickey D's for a couple of months in college and no one ever said I made a mistake....then again my register was never short. I feel sorry for those that can't differentiate between a dollar and a 20 dollar bill, but if they can not tell the difference or can't count out change aren't they in a position way over their head?

I found it very sad the first time that I ate at a Wendy's in Arizona. They had a little machine that would dispense change further simplifying the extremely difficult job of the fast food cashier...First the pictures of sandwiches on the register and now change dispensers...this is a sad age for us all....

Similar thing happened to me.. I was returning beer bottles, about 4 dollars worth... the guy rang up 4 dollars, and gave me 16 back (thought I had given him a 20)... I was out in not even 2 secodns :D

OH yeah, and keep the movies... his mistake, his problem.... people make mistakes...

Hehe....I had an even bigger morality check this week.

I ordered new components for my road bike and they sent me the top-of-the-line grouppo instead of the second-to-top-of-the-line stuff that I ordered (and paid for....I checked my CC statement). This represented about a $500 upgrade. I hemmed and hawed about it for a day or so and finally decided to email them and tell them about the mixup.

They wrote back and said that for an extra £100 (mailorder place is in Ireland), I could keep the nicer stuff. So I get the good stuff for a massive discount and I get to ride it with a clear conscience. :p
