I am planning on setting up two computers for my parents. One will only be used for Quicken and FileMaker Pro. The other is going to be used for e-mail and web surfing. Not very strenuous work, to be sure, but who knows what the future holds.
I have a Shuttle SV25 with a Celeron 800 MHz and 256mb RAM and a Shuttle SK41G with an Athlon 1700+. I have two Seagate 120gb PATA HDs. I also have about $300 to spend on this project.
My question is, do I simply max out what I have (better CPU and more RAM) or do I sell the Shuttles I have and buy something like two SK21G with AMD Sempron 2600+ and a Corsair VS 512MB PC2700 stick for about $350 each ($700 total)?
I figure that I can get about $200 by selling both of the current units, leaving me about $200 over budget, but that should not be a problem in the end.
So, what do you think?
