Poll: MAC or IBM

IBM is more compatibl so I would go with that, but Macs are nice machines aswell so I cant choose between them.

Who calls the entire PC platform 'IBM' anymore these days?

The only places you are going to get people telling you macs are superior are their little zealot communites where they refer to PC's as 'Wintel' machines...

Whatever the merits of the Apple and G4 chips, I won't ever have one. You just don't get the wealth of software (often free on coverdisks) or the superb price of PC parts. Apple in trying to keep tight hold on the patents have become a "ghetto", having not even 10% of PC sale volumes. Apple is BORING because you can't fiddle and chop and change parts.

By IBM I assume you mean PC in general.
And the PC platform is better by far.
The mac has clock/clock advantages at certain things...but with the Relese of the 1.2Ghz Athlon PCs are officially more than double the clockspeed of a G4...the G4 doesn't have that big a clock/clock advantage...
Mac has a far far smaller software base than Windows
The prices for macs are much higher
PCs are more flexible (Example: I love my Radeon becuase I like Image quality over flat-out speed, there are many people that are the other way with and thus prefer a GeForce. This is just one example...there are many..Macs are totally uncustomizable)
Macs have awful design...the Silver/Charcol G4s look pretty good, just a standard design with a pretty cool colour combo...but some of those iMacs are frightening colours..and they are limited expandablity...and that f**king G4 cube...I've seen laptops with more expandability options...

But what it really all comes down to is that Mac's are a proprietary design...how many people in these forums like Compaq's or HP's or Acer's or such things...they all use messed up propritary designs (from what I've seen of Dell/Gateway they use fairly standard stuff...but they still skimp wherever they can)...I just can't stand the thought of anyone else working inside my computer...it gives me shivers...I like standard stuff that I work on myself...you just can't get that with Macs...
not that there is much customization you can do on Macs..

Well anyhow...I think you get my point.

Noriaki: Well said. One must also remember that despite the clock/clock advantage the IBM Power PC 70x (Gx in MAC-speak) processors have over their x-86 competitors it just cannot be enough to overcome a 700MHz gap between the 500MHz MAC and the 1.2GHz Athlons. Also, though MAC hypes it new "G4 Dual" towers, a dual processor system is not twice as fast as a single processor system when using the same processor types. I honestly don't think MAC will ever be a true competitor given that IBM produces all their CPU's and I can't imagine that something IBM refers to on their website as "embedded technology" will be an extremely high priority. I love reminding a militant MAC fanatic that the CPU in his beloved iMAC was made by IBM.
