Not to worry, the Netgear is also excellent. Either unit would be just fine. This thread has been posted a thousand times before, and if the originator had bothered to use the search button, he'd already know that.
people usually don't reply because the subject has already been posted before with a decent size thread.
In any case, I've got a linksys router which hasn't given me any problems. In the case that it does, Linksys is good about replacing them without fuss.
I would have to recommend the SMC Barricade router. If you are using PPPoE, definately stay away from the Linksys, it sucks IMHO, and I've used both routers.
lol you guys! I have installed several Linksys router and switch or hub combinations at offices in my area. If it's good enough for 48 users in one install and 19 users in another install, I'm sure it's good enough for you at home. I have one at my home office also with 3 machines on it. I have had it since December 1999 when it was first released. I have updated the firmware recently to the 1.37 version. I have never once had to reset the router! Is this what you wanted to hear? Oh, I have done both Cable modem and DSL modem installs with it. Not one problem.
don't be so sure about the linksys. It did suck for pppoe with pachell. I would get dropped on avg of five times a day. Upgraded firmware, changed cables, and no I was not going to pay another $40/mo. for a static ip. I also use the smc barricade now. the best router I have used at home is the linux router project setup on a p100
with 10mb of ram. Might have to build another one again.
The linksys worked fine for the first 31 days. the second one worked for about two months. I didn't bother with the hassle of returning it or hanging on their nonservice line.
my $171.02.
