*Poll* Landline only, Cell only, Both, Neither.

Friend and I keep having the same conversation about going cell only, then I remind him he wants a TiVo and the conversation breaks down only to start up again. Just wondering, how many of you are cell only at this point and how you deal with things like a TiVo, PPV purchases on DishNetwork/DirectTV, security systems, LifeAlert if you have any elderly in the household, fax machines, etc etc. And how many of you would be cell only if not for one of those reasons?

Both. I hate talking on cell phones, so if I'm at home I want to use a landline. Having a cell phone has also become a necessity of sorts, however, so I'm pretty much screwed either way. 😛

Cell only. It only sucks when I get put on hold talking to tech support during the day. Those are precious minutes!!

Cell phone only. Works for me so far. Had to give up my ADSL. Don't really miss not having Internet access. Might get cable in the future.

My ADSL plan only cost about 5 dollars more then landline service for unlimited calling so why not.

I'd think of switching to cell only, but being out in the country, one thing keeps me attached to the landline.....power outages. During a bad storm, power has been known to die across large areas around here, and when it does die, so do the cell phones. Landlines, though, continue to function. For us at least, that's an important consideration.

We also have a Honda powered generator so we can continue to surf the net, watch TV/movies/ have a refrigerator, heat or A/C, cook, etc. But having a working phone is quite important for us.....and having a cell die because no power downstream isn't much of an option.....a cell is a nice backup and we have two, but will always have a landline

I'm cell only with a cable modem. I have digital cable, so I don't need a phone line to fire in with PPV. My cable is supposed to offer DVR service soon, so when that happens I'll fire in with that, and it should work over the cable or over my broadband connection.

If I get married and/or move into a home (instead of an apartment) then I will probably get a landline. Landlines are absolutely necessary once you have kids for 911.

both for safety reasons. one of the reasons is 911 if need to call they will have address of were u are right away, yes i know e911 is commming out but untill then i will for sure keep landline and second one if earthquake happens landline will usually start working much faster then cell phone if the earthquake is big enough

i guess he just leaves all the lights on in the house all the time? those off switches can be tricky 😉

Vonage $27.24 a month including taxes. Unlimited Local, all features, and 500 minutes of ld a month.

Convert that line to a cell phone and we have the cost of the phone, and $26.22 a month. Only one phone in the house and limited minutes. Battery dies or tower goes down and we have no phone.

Having a landline is well worth the extra $1.02 a month.
