what are you opinions?

for those who don't know, the 4.2 system is two 2.1 systems paird together, or a 4.1 system with a second sub.

btw: the 4.2 setup is a 100 bucks less.

edit: going with the 5.1's. anyone ever order from this place? experiences?

well it's the same satalites as the 5.1's... just different subs...

"Innovative reference four-channel system (twin 2.1 systems)
The ProMedia 4.2 configuration is designed to offer an alternative gaming solution utilizing dual ProMedia 2.1s. This ?hardcore configuration? optimizes audio envelopment with dual subwoofer enclosures to deliver extreme involvement for gamers and movie fans alike" - from klipsch... imo it would be cool to have dual subs, one in front and one in back... but then again, the 4.2 dosen't have a center....

IMHO
4.1 Logitech z-560s..... i assume you want alot of bass. wanting to use 2 subs and all. the logitechs bass is amazing. and i think they sound better than the Klipsch 5.1 's i have played them side by side. and didnt tell all my freinds which one was which when i played them. everyone agreed that the logitechs sounded better. i have had them for a few months now and they have yet to let me down... best 120 something i have ever spent... 🙂

have z560's on a comp at home... i'm looking for something to replace these boston kba4800's here in my dorm..

btw: i have the extigy so i would like to get full use out of the front/rear/sub outs... which the 5.1's do..

actually from what i've read, even the sats are slightly different. you'd probably have to take em apart to see. i read that in a detailed review somewhere, i'm too lazy to find out where🙂

a center speaker is worth it.

the much kewler control pod is too.

and nicer sub😛

Id recommend the 4.2s for most people.

I have the 5.1s, and they are nice. But the 4.2s would be cheaper and more useful for most people. The center channel I have doesnt get used that often. If Im watching movies or playing Americas Army I use it, but other than that its quiet.

With the 4.2s you have 2 subs, so if you position one in the front and one in the rear, you get a nice "surround" effect with the sub, really nice for the helicopter scene in the Matrix. The center channel you dont get with the 4.2s isnt really too much of a loss since a "phantom" center is created by the front speakers.

If you are mostly getting speakers for music and gaming, the 4.2s are a better deal IMO, especially given the price difference.

Edit: the sats are different, the 5.1s (and the 4.1s for that matter) handle more wattage than the 2.1 sats. The sub also handles more wattage than the 2.1. Of course Ive never found 5.1, 4.1, 4.2, or 2.1 Klipsch sets to lack enough power, so Im not sure how much any of that matters.

juts look up reviews of the 5.1, eventually you'll find one that explains how the sats are different😛 two 6.5" subs are not the same as a double 8" sub😛 the range of the bass will not be the same.

Newegg has the 5.1s for $360 plus free shipping. We all know newegg's track record, so thats where Id get 'em if I were you.

they don't rate much lower than newegg... oh well purchase placed... it would be my headach not yours 😉
