What do you guys think, 4.1 or 4.2 for the promedia's from Klipsch. The second sub does not do much for me as far as impressing me to buy them. I think the better satalites on the 4.1 is good, but I've read some reviews that using the 4.2 makes it a better surround sound system because the rear speakers get more sounds sent to them.

Comments opinions plz

Apperntly the 4.1 sub has a power output limiter which could suck if you go for really high volume...but I doubt it would be an issue.

Lets see.

4.2 vs 4.1
cost $100 more
you have to balance two sets

but you have two subs...this is not much of an advantage

If you sub is functioning properly you should not be able to place any sounds coming from it. LFE is very ambient, the human ear is not capable of placing really low frequency. (Edit: by "not be able to place" I mean you shouldn't be able to determine the direction the sound is coming from)

So having a sub in front of you and one behind you should be useless if they are tuned properly.

Unless removing the output limiter is worth $100 to you don't get 4.2. And I don't that it is.

<< Where did you hear that 4.1 satellites are any better/different? >>

the 4.1's are 60 watt satellites and the 4.2 has 35 watt satellites

Does anybody really know the difference?

Klipsch speakers are highly efficient so upping the wattage from 35 to 60 watts should be less than 3 db difference.

But what's the best bang for the buck? Is the extra subwoofer, "improved" crossover and headphone jack actually worth $75 more?

I can't find any reviews of the "new" system? Is Klipsch just trying to get rid of their old stock of 2.1's by combining them into 4.2's.?

probably, that and they are way behind on the 4.1 orders, so they are trying to divert people into buying the 4.2 cause they have them

From my understanding the the 4.1s have two subs in one box, while the 4.2s only have one in each box.

OMFG, Rip from Klipsch's page:

Dear Valued Klipsch Customer...
Due to the overwhelming response to the award-winning ProMedia 4.1 and short supplies through the first half of March, we proudly present a very limited and exclusive offer to purchase an upgrade system for the same price. The ProMedia 4.2 gaming package (comprised of two separate ProMedia 2.1 systems combined for a 4.2 setup) is offered for $299. for a very limited time (the clock is ticking!) This equates to $100. off the original suggested price of $399. for two ProMedia
2.1 systems @ $199. each.

We are offering this as a courtesy to any customers that may be inconvenienced by having to wait for the availability of the ProMedia 4.1 system. The 4.2 package is hailed as the ultimate set up for 4-channel soundcards with two subwoofer enclosures. The set up diagram is on the 4.2 store page if you would like to see more about this configuration. The GamersDepot review of the ProMedia 2.1
discusses this 4.2 option as an ultimate alternative. Click here for this supreme deal for the ProMedia "4.2" -- dual 2.1 solution.

Thank you for your patronage! By your enthusiasm, the ProMedia speaker line has become the most popular, in-demand personal audio/ computer speaker line on the planet. The Pro Media ver. 2-400's have the new Pod and put out 60w to the satellites and 160w to the subwoofer with the headphone jack.
Check it out Linkage

The 4.2 would be a better deal with 100.00 off. but too many wires and 2 subwoofers would blow the crap off my walls so I think the ver 2-400's would be sweet.

bgskier: I have no idea which are better, I think I will be more than happy with my 4.1s. Who knows, may have been able to sell them for a profit in a month or so.

billyjak: I think the power out of the two separate subs, would be about the same as the two in the same box (maybe less, since they wouldn't be firing against each other).

So the differances between the 4.1's and the v2.400 is the headphone and MP3jacks, the power button, the new crossover? What else, is all that worth the extra, cause best buy still has the v2.400's.

The 4.1s have better midrange, that is well worth the extra $50.

In my opinion the v.2-400s are midling speakers at best, despite the higher range price tag. The poor mid range hurts vocals in music and voices in DVDs, and makes them a very undesirable set for such things.

The 4.1s fix up the midrange, and are quite likely the best 4.1 system short of the Sirocco Crossfires (cost $500+), this coming from a long time Anti-Klipsch kinda person.

I'm not sure about the Klipsch 4.2. But ever since the SBlive came out and I bought my second set of Altec ADA305s for the rear I have never looked back the 2 subs really rock my gaming and Rock Roll MP3s. I've heard the Klipsch 4.1 and it has nothing on my older but double system setup until you really turn it up. The klipsch can reach higher then mine before they destort. But at that point your deaf any ways :)

I say go for the 4.1s. The 4.1s have 4 Sats at 60 watts, while the 4.2s are 35 watts. Then the 4.1s have two subs in one box at 80 watts each, which fire against each other. The 4.2s, however, have two sub boxes each with one 130 watt sub.

As was agreed in a previous thread on this. The 4.2s are a gimmick.

" 'Pffttt.... the v2-400's are old news, as are the new 4.1's.

Check out the new 4.2's! '

That's lame. If your sub is properly placed there is no need for a second one."

Wait a minute thorin, you are saying that the 4.2's are a gimmick, but since the other systems are old, you should get the 4.2 anyways? This really needs to be answered without a doubt. I understand some people are gonna think differant things, but so far we have gotten like 3 people saying 4.2's and 2 saying 4.1's( I din't actually count so don't tell me those aren't the right numbers).

decisions decisions..

thorin, think of it this way...

the total wattage of the sub on the 4.1's is 160watts
the total wattage of the subs on the 4.2's are 260watts.

but the sats on the 4.2's only total 140w, while the 4.1's total 240w.

 :D ;)

i'd rather have more wattage on the sats, tho. my 4.1's came in the other day........but they sent me the wrong speakers. i'm gonna have to wait much longer for a replacement set :frown: :frown: :frown:
