I had an interesting development yesterday. After I installed the Overclocker's BIOS and set the memory timings and Latency to be controlled by SPD (which wasn't an option with the BIOS as shipped), all of a sudden I developed the same High Pitched Squeal/Lock-Up problem in games and playing MP3's that I've seen reported in this forum so many times.
I think that either the memory timings and Latency controlled by SPD in the ADVANCED CHIPSET FEATURES section of BOIS is causing the problem by itself or the culprit is SPD control in combination with overlocking the CPU by Multiplier/FSB.
It would be a shame if SPD control alone is the problem as it gives such a nice performance boost in memory benchmarks - I'd hate to have to turn if off permanently. I hope its just a problem with SPD in combination with a higher FSB than 100. I can afford to lose the FSB tweaks.
Can someone who is experiencing the problem consistently turn off SPD control and see if that is an immediate fix?
I remember someone posting a sound test a few weeks ago that would lock his system consistently. Darn I wish I could find that post so I could experiment when I get home. It would be nice to finally put the Pro 2A Sound Issue thing to bed for us all.
What do you guys think?
Thanks for reading my ramblings and for the help!
