Poll: K7T Pro 2A Sound Issues

I had an interesting development yesterday. After I installed the Overclocker's BIOS and set the memory timings and Latency to be controlled by SPD (which wasn't an option with the BIOS as shipped), all of a sudden I developed the same High Pitched Squeal/Lock-Up problem in games and playing MP3's that I've seen reported in this forum so many times.

I think that either the memory timings and Latency controlled by SPD in the ADVANCED CHIPSET FEATURES section of BOIS is causing the problem by itself or the culprit is SPD control in combination with overlocking the CPU by Multiplier/FSB.

It would be a shame if SPD control alone is the problem as it gives such a nice performance boost in memory benchmarks - I'd hate to have to turn if off permanently. I hope its just a problem with SPD in combination with a higher FSB than 100. I can afford to lose the FSB tweaks.

Can someone who is experiencing the problem consistently turn off SPD control and see if that is an immediate fix?

I remember someone posting a sound test a few weeks ago that would lock his system consistently. Darn I wish I could find that post so I could experiment when I get home. It would be nice to finally put the Pro 2A Sound Issue thing to bed for us all.

What do you guys think?

Thanks for reading my ramblings and for the help!

I never experienced the problem, so this info may or may not be helpful.

I had been using the overclock BIOS and experienced no problems with onboard sound. I am running a Duron 750 at 850 with 100Mhz FSB. RAM settings are by SPD. I just switched to 2.2 BIOS last night and have not had a chance to ensure that sound still works properly. I will keep this thread updated when I test.

I just got my new computer last week, didn't change anything in BIOS, and every once in a while when I play Starcraft, the damn sound goes high pitched....

did you find any solution to your/my problem? guess I'll buy a soundblaster and say hell with it.

I have this same board and did have this problem once....high pitch squeel...ACK!

I wish I could tell you why it went away but I just rebooted and it was gone.

And I am using the new OCn bios too.

Memory maxed out, Duron600 @ 10x105 for 1050.

I have never heard it again...go figure.

I had problems with crackling and highpitch squeals. Then I updated to the latest Audio driver. Same thing.

Then I updated to latest 4-in-1 driver and it was better but...

something happens and the sound goes away (when trying to play directx games) and won't come back until I reboot.

Really po'ed because I don't really want to spend $$$ on a SBLive.
