so, which one??

obviously the Babe is the greatest yankee of all time if not the greatest baseball player of all time.

but who's the #2 yankee of all time. i know Mattingly is quite popular in NY right now, but i'm not sure Mattingly is quite in the class of these two, ARod will probably be in their class when he's done.

edited to put Lou Gehrig in title. my bad, he definitely deserves consideration.

I gotta go with Joe D. Want to see something awesome? Look at his Strikeout to Homerun numbers.

<_edit> Now that Gehrig has been added, I'd like to change my vote. Gehrig was absolutely amazing. </_edit>

Darryl Strawberry, greatest Yankee of all time for his accumulation of three and four baggers.

Mays never played for the Yankees!

He finished his career with the Mets, but I believe he was a Giant up until that point (accompanied them with the move to the west coast)

Tough call between Mantle and Gehrig. Both were stellar hitters (Triple Crown winners, even!), but even with Lou's durability I give the edge to the Mick for his speed and defense. DiMaggio was great, but I don't think he quite measures up to the other two.

Wow, tough question. I bet that on three different days I'd vote three different ways. They're all great. Voted for the Iron Horse.

For Gehrig, keep in mind that until 1932, a player could only win the MVP once in his career. It's probable he would have won more of them if this rule had not existed.

Mattingly isn't even solid HOF quality...he's not anywhere near the class of two of the top 10 hitters ever :)

Wow, very tought call...

Gehrig got his durability, amazing power and he was an RBI machine. He was unluck enough to play behind a guy named Ruth, otherwise he'd get more recognition.

Joe D got his 57 game hitting streak which is unbelievable at this point. Guy had great speed and almost never struck out.

Mantle had amazing power. He was the was the only hitter to hit a facade at the yankee stadium. And he didn't even need steroids to do that.

That being said - I voted Mantle, but I think either one of the 3 is a valid choice.

Also, keep in mind that Gehrig's career was cut short. Who knows what he would've done if he played until he was 40.

That is a tough one. I will rule out the Mick first, because he didn't dominate for as long (but his peak years were probably better than Joe D's and Gehrig's)

I'll give the nod to Gehrig because of the streak - and it's only as a tie-breaker. Gehrig and DiMaggio are very close.

id say for all-around baseball players all three of them are better than Ruth.

that being said: Mantle.
