I love that movie and also watch it over and over. Also in that vein - The Outlaw Josey Wales is another favorite. So many good lines.....

I've also seen Lonesome Dove quite a few times, although not always to the end
because Robert Duvall's character (Gus) dies
.

I like most westerns. Just something about the American frontier that is cool.

Say what you will about him, Kevin Costner is a guy you can tell really likes westerns and is one of the few people that keeps this genre alive today.

Gotta agree, all great pulp fiction movies, full of hype, with the only problem being, the total lack of historical reality.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly is like that for me.

Going against the western theme in this thread though, I'll also throw in The Big Lebowski and Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon

How the West was Won is another that I can watch, over and over.

The school district bussed hundreds of us 5th graders from Springfield, Mass to New Haven, Conn. to see that one when it was first released. It coincided with the part of US History we were studying at the time.

You should check out Dead Man with Johnny Depp, very different but I think it paints one of the dirties pictures of the wild west that I've seen in a movie. I think that's why people like Jeremiah Johnson, it glamorized it less than others films of the time

I can watch Unforgiven multiple times.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly is like that for me.

You can hardly go wrong with any Clint Eastwood Western.

BTW, one of my very good friends just published a book about Clint, Clint Eastwood: Master Filmmaker at Work.

Clint's Westerns are almost always awesome, and they're proving to be timeless imho, whereas a good number of John Wayne's films are a bit cringe-worthy to say the least. The Shootist is pretty damned good though.

As for films that I can pretty much pick up and watch at any time,

Forrest Gump, Princess Bride, Aliens, those all come to mind. I've seen them maybe dozens of times, but still find them entertaining.

Yeah, I gave up on John Wayne films.

Excellent list.

I also can watch Cliffhanger over and over, though I would not say it is a classic. Also Diehard, Earthquake and all the Airport movies.
