Right now, I have a jumble of cable comming from my switch and router. How many of you out there, who made CAT5 wall jacks..are there? Was it easy? Any diagrams on the net to show how to do it? Thanks
Most builders know how to do it these days, if you're having a house built anyhow. As to your question, yes my house is cat5'd. I have 75ft network cables running all over the apartment and holes drilled in several walls.
Russ, just curious, are you guys using 56k at the shop? Cause where we use to work...I would be cussing out loud since my boss made me download Netscape install file..LOL...he said that business xDSL/Cable is too expensive :disgust:
theres 50 feet of cat5 going from the switch in my room to my roommate's switch, running right through the middle of the living room on the floor. we were going to route it on the ceiling but no one ever trips over it as it is.
nope its not... i wish it was, almost tripped a few times on the cable that runs along the bottom of the floor in my room. good thing there's some slack on the cable
My office distributes computing to the rest of the network. I did not pull wire, but ran 3 lines out, wall jacked those, went around the house at the roofline stapling with a gun and dropping down to 3 rooms, where I drilled in, and installed easy boxes. You do the easy boxes with a dremel tool, and they sit into the dryway, then you turn screws which hold them in with a couple lugs. Then in with the wire, put jacks and wall plates on and it looks just like it goes there
we are planning to do it one of these days but for now we just have cable running along the wall into rooms and the closet. They are fairly tidy though.
I actually did it properly in my house, 5 node network. Had to snake cable in the yucky crawlspace under the house.
Now that I'm at school, I'm wiring up the house here as well. There was a mummified possum in the crawlspace. Talk about ick! This will be a 5 node network as well, sharing a cable line.
What is the going rate these days for someone to cat-5 a house? Cable modems and DSL are FINALLY in my area and we see some potential in installation. I know there are lots of lazy people that wouldn't want to do it themselves...
