i've always been curious why church groups segregate by sex. i started going to one that did segregate, then started going to another that didn't. the difference was that the unsegregated one was a strictly cantonese-speaking one comprised of mostly college aged students from hong kong (this is at ucla). the other group is your typical asian-american college bible study group, conducted in english. granted, at the cantonese-speaking one, we would break up into smaller groups to discuss scripture and pray, but it was never along gender lines.
does this structure depend mostly on the philosophy of the church group, denomination, or what?
