Athlon64 is going to become the new standard so it makes sense that any AMD owner or fan will upgrade to it in future. I think anyone getting an Opteron rig now who isnt using it as a server is just wasting their money, the Athlon 64 will be higher clocked when it arrives and the motherboards will be cheaper and more well specified then. :beer:

I'm not touching either till they get to 90nm.
K8 doesn't look like it's going to scale well on 130nm.
I don't even want to think about Prescott's power requirments on 130nm.

Besides, i like to be able to alteast pretend i get an upgrade path when i spring for a new Motherboard and ram.

There won't be any .13µ Prescotts... They will be built on the .09µ process.

Intel names all of their cpu codenames after natural landmarks such as rivers, mountains, etc...

I dun know, because the Athlon 64 is supposed to put out less heat than the higher end Athlon XP's.
