Not an owner of a 6800 as this thread and a few others on non working features, artifacting, etc have been standing between the $350-$400 in my pocket and BFG, Leadtek, or whom ever for a month now.

There are bad cards in every gen, it isnt any more or less prevalent now than it is in other gens.

Look at the number of 6800s flying on AT, to have even 20 people with problems is not a big deal.

The not working feature, the video encoder/decoder, isnt a big deal to most people, however, it is a big deal to me. Ill be running 6600s as a result.

perhaps the most finickie (is that a word?) about power supply over other cards, but other than that (well, heat, but i'd have to attribute that to BFG, not nvidia) i've had no issues.

no issues of any sort w/ my x800 tho, power or otherwise (i haven't re-installed 'sacrifice', lol)

Nah, that record is probably held by the S3 Savage 2000 - pretty much the card that caused them to drop from the scene back in late 99/early 2000. It was supposed to compete with the original GeForce, and as such it's most touted feature was onboard hardware T&L. Unfortunately, that didn't really work....

Yeah I have to agree, I still have mine somewhere in the basement. It took them so long just to get Quake3 running without those jagged edges. Running Unreal Tournament with S3 MeTaL renderer looked great, but there is horrible mouse lag. Other 3D engine games simply did not work.

Granted, new gen problems are expected, however, I've been watching almost nearly every post concerning IQ issues, 2D in particular. Many of the posted threads have been a result of user error in some way, but I'm not getting the "warm-n-fuzzy" yet that the quality is up to par for a $350+ card.

BTW: I loved my savage 2000 card 😛 The T&L Unit was really flaky though. Anyone remember how the original Radeon supported 'pixel shaders'. Muhahahaha ! Lies...all lies !

Rule of thumb: If the cardcan't do said advertised feature out of the box, disregard feature as part of the buying equation.

The cards are fine but some are coming with OEM BIOSes that are faulty. Flash the card to nVidia's reference BIOS & only use nVidia's official drivers and you'll be fine.

You mean I can flash my GeForce 6800U with a BIOS from nVidia instead of the card manufacturer? I am having some stability problems, so I have to get it sorted out as soon as I can.
