Mine is still having probs. Trying hard to sort it all out. Random freezing with games. Used coolbits and Riva tuner. Now playing with blit settings on Riva tuner.
PNY TOTALLY SUCKS. Be warned when buying from these guys.
I should have waited for the X800 XTPE.

Apparently you forgot about nvidia's last try... the fx series. I like the 6800 series and have had no problems with it.

Anyone one want to venture a guess on "User Error"? I am not sure how new you are to the whole graphics card scene, but I have absolutely no idea how you could come to the conclusion that this is the "buggiest card ever".

P.S. This is a waste of the word POLL.

Not Nvidia's fault you didn't do your homework and realize that PNY eats it. Probably the worst cards out there...why do you think they sell them almost entirely through Best Buy? Guy I know had a PNY Ti4400...couldn't even run XP cause of errors...blame the card manufacturer, not Nvidia.

WAY less problems than several other cards I can remember:
nVidia Riva128
S3 ViRGE3D
3Dfx Voodoo Banshee
ATi Rage Fury Maxx
Rendition Verite

I could go on....

I have a eVga 6800gt in my wifes computer and a x800xt in my main rig and I have had no problems with either of them. I would have to say (in my opinion) that both companies got it right with this generation of cards, not perfect but pretty darn good.

The reason I put the 6800gt card in my wifes computer is because I heard that it was a stable trouble free card. No complaints here so far, and believe me if there was a way to screw up that card my wife would find it.

I see so many complaints about the 6800s on these forums, and 98% of the time it's just PEBKAC errors. I took my 6800GT out of its box, stuck it in my motherboard, and that was all I had to do besides update my drivers to the 61.77s so Windows could identify the 6800GT properly. I have no idea why people have so many problems, is it because you have to plan your power wiring so the 6800 cards get most of the wattage off the lines?
That being said, it is true that PNY is ten pounds of assmeat in a five pound bag. My PNY Ti4200 died after three years of service, and I only had it slightly overclocked (265/545 core/memory); by comparison, Gainward cards are still going strong at 300/600. Owned. :( BFG for life! : ))))

You are a good husband!! I gave my wife the hand-me-down GeForce2 Pro :D Then again, I built her system with the Antec Sonata, an LCD display and Z-2200 speakers, and Logitech wireless kb/mouse.

Nah, that record is probably held by the S3 Savage 2000 - pretty much the card that caused them to drop from the scene back in late 99/early 2000. It was supposed to compete with the original GeForce, and as such it's most touted feature was onboard hardware T&L. Unfortunately, that didn't really work....

A guy you know? This is your basis on why PNY eats it? My PNY 6800GT seems to be flawless. Did I get lucky? I doubt it. They are as close to Nvidia's reference 6800's as you can get. An article was even written specifically on PNY's 6800 series stating how closely they followed Nvidia's specs. So, what makes them eat it? The only problem I see with PNY cards, (and this is long ago) is their cooling fans died very often due to bearing or brush failures. I had a PNY: GF2 Ti, MX200, MX420, Ti4600, FX5600,rev.2, 6800GT. I only had a problem with the MX420 with that fan failure and other people reported the same problem on the same card. I replaced the fan and the card is still kicking (albeit in my server which I of course don't game on). Not a single hitch with any of the other PNY cards I have owned. Just for the record. Sure, I bet many people have had problems with their PNY cards, but probably no more than any other manufacturer's cards and surely not as bad as you make them out to be.

My $0.63

Mermaidman,
How does she like those Z-2200's? I've got me a pair, and I'm really enjoying the nice bass and clear highs.

Good god--she does. She listens to LOOOOUUUUD music (Metallica, 3DoorsDown, Audioslave, etc). It's like living in an apt with noisy neighbors all over again.

Lets not hijack the thread anymore :p

Nope. Can't say I have the problems you are having.

...and another vote for the z-2200's here. :)
