POLL: Is really bad hay fever a valid excuse to call off work?

I've never known myself to be allergic to anything.... but after spending serveral days in our 4 decade old, never cleaned once dusty warehouse assisting with inventory and then gettting a two lungs full of all of the autumn airborne crap while breathing heavily for half an hour biking to work, I have a case of hay fever that- if was any worse, might require hospitalization....

I'm one of those people who can't remember the last time I was sick (as opposed to all of the hypochondriacts I know)

*edit for spelling

It's getting near the end of the year, I've got sick days I havent used... I'll probably call in for a freakin' stubbed toe.

So, to answer your question, no, it's not bad to do.

Yeh, go for it. Though I am coming from a rather loose sick day policy at my work. People call in sick for vacations where I work. 😀

If you think it'd keep you from doing your work effectively, call in sick.

If you don't use it, the company will NOT feel bad about taking it from you without compensation.
<-- lost 155 hours of sick time last year.

No. it's not bad to call in sick, and you'd better call a doctor quick and have your lungs checked out. Cleaning out a space like that could have given you something pretty nasty. It's obvious that your system has reacted to something.

the biggest *drama* of me not going to work has more to do with me simply not being there, not what work doesen't get done while I'm gone.... I still have yet to figure out what I'm supposed to be doing when the servers are running normally and nobody has any problems 🙂

I've never worked at a place where people stayed home if something was contagious. I don't think that's how the real world works, unfortunately. People stay home when they feel bad.

Students all busy taking mid-terms and staff getting ready to hit the road for campus visits = no work for me🙂

Benadryl works fine if you take it wath a strong dose of Pseudofed

my boss stayed home yesterday due to severe asthma , he couldn't sleep much the night before , so he stayed home to nap between checking email

Once or twice is fine, as long as you use the time to figure out how to handle the allergies effectively, whether that means go to the doctor, or changing to a better OTC med (like Claritin).
