I'm a freak, and proud of it, but had trouble telling this to my Grandmother. Her, "oh, no you're not, don't say things like that." Me - "You don't understand, this isn't a bad thing." Her - "Okay, but don't tell anyone else."
She realized I meant freak as in just being kinda off the wall sometimes but in her opinion, this was a negative thing.

I think you've hit it there. The general population is past the era of conformity by-and-large, and mostly past the era of non-comformity. Into the era of individualism now. I think that's where the dialogue between me and my grandmother missed a step - she's from the conformist generation, my parents from the non comformist, and me from the individualistic.

<< it seems that weird here IS normal.. quite the paradox :D >>

Well, considering the population that AT draws from, the representative sample might consider themselves more weird than the general population would.

it's a vicious thing we have though... take the punk scene for example. a lot of people like a band when it's still small and relatively unknown. band gets famous, because people want to be trendy and like an unknown band. people dislike band because majority of people like it. see the problem?

i'm non-conformist when it comes to hanging out or other stuff with peers. but i'm conformist when it comes to job interviews, academics, etc. that's the best of both worlds.

I'm weird... generally a good thing, but it has downides, i.e. more than once a girl has refused to go out with me becasue either they dont like weird, or in a few cases, they like me, but everytime i start dating someone, that someone will end up taking alot of sh1t..... and i cant do a damn thing about it,becasue its all from the low-class greasy kids, who have a habit of defending one another, and i could take one, but there isnt a way in hell that i could defend against all of them... i would quite literally be killed

I think most people believe I'm normal until they get to know me. Then they think I'm strange.
