Poll: Is licenced parenting a good idea?

Nowadays you need a permit or licence to do pretty much anything, but anyone, can have a child?

Isn't that kinda wrong? If a child grows up in the wrong place, its future will probably be bleak, or in light of this thread the child might not have one at all.

The answer could be licensed parenting. Before a couple (or single mother/father/adoptees) have a child, they should take courses in child care and pass tests. Failing to pass could result in huge surtaxes, so huge they will discourage the person/people from having a child.

so, is this a good idea?

I agree. Better yet, sterilize people when they're born and reverse the process once they pass the parenting tests.

 

It may be a good idea in some respects, but we don't live in China.

This is probably one of the worst ideas Ive heard in a long time. It would be a bigger failure than prohibition and the "drug war" combined.


BTW: I think some buy in Germany tried the whole sterilization thing a few years back. Things didnt quite work out for him, from what I hear.

Lets say this couple has a child. They now have huge surtaxes placed on them. They will have to work longer/harder to make the extra money to support this child. What kind of support will they be able to give this child when they are constantly working, or choose not to make the extra money so they have little money to live on. This makes me think kind of 1984 (which Im reading right now). You can't regulate everything and still have a large population that is happy and will survive for long periods of time down the road.
