POLL: Is it safe to use CD/DVD Drive in a slanted way? (or vertical instead of flat on bottom)

Is it okay to use CD/DVD Drive side ways or in non flat surface? (Except the slot-load drives obcourse)

Vertically placed drives also falls in this category.

I personally think it's not safe because I've losted one of my cdrom from using it vertically.
