I've tried both on a few systems and WMP 9.0 sounds clearer and cleaner than Winamp 2.91 (also tried the older versions 2.81, etc... I'm staying away from 3.0)

turn up the volume on Winamp and you'll hear all kinds of cracking and hissing, but not with WMP.

sound cards include Live, Live 5.1, Audigy and onboard NForce2 sound.

WMP has always been better with the sound quality than winamp...
the only thing cool about winamp is that it doesn't use up as much resources... i can listen to winamp while playing games and it is still smooth...but wmp just lags up the video...etc.

Perhaps you just suck at listening. :D

I use both. I think foobar sounds best followed by Winamp then WMP9

WMP9 is so overbloated tho and uses massive CPU.

Try Kerwon Jetaudio. Also freeware. I experienced noticeable difference.

Use the MAD plugin for Winamp, and you'll never want to listen to anything else. It's a higher precision MPEG codec that produces some fantastic sound quality.
