Boys...until girls hit that "special" age where they want every look-good product known to man. Then I could see how it would be harder on the pocketbook

This. My girl's way easier right now, but she's only 4. I think the whole thing will change once they're teenagers.

Kind of a moot point isn't it? Not like you can choose which one you have.

I have a son, he's our only child so I only have one point of reference.

Well, boys are generally more likely to get into trouble, but there's more emotional upkeep with girls as they get older.

I have 2 boys, my brother has a girl and my cousin has 3 girls. They are all under 7 or so. I think boys are much tougher at a younger age since they mature slower than girls but I would hate dealing with teenage daughters.

When my boys get older I only have to worry about one penis; whereas with girls you have to worry about a lot more.

I accidentally voted boys, but every parent I've ever talked to with both has said the girl was harder to raise.

I have one of each, and the boy has been more work so far (boy is 12, girl is 8). Young boys are more emotionally needy than girls, from my experience. They're clingier and need more attention and reassurance/praise. Girls are generally more independent.

I don't have kids, but I'd vote girls because I'd be scared to death everytime they left the house.

Girls, and I am a parent. With a boy you only have to worry about one penis, with girls you have to worry about all the penises in town.

why dont you look at it as worrying about one vagina... and perhaps how this one vagina is respected and such....

anyways, i have a girl. shes tough stuff, only 3 but im more imagining when shes older. i think it is tougher to raise girls because in a few ways they have more facets. i feel like boys are easier to please but i dont know what on earth i would do with a boy.... but i am hoping that when OCN and i decide to have kids, he gets the son he wants.

i think children are tough to raise anyways, male or female. more power to us parents!

to every one saying this same comment "worrying about one penis" etc.....

this is annoying me for many reasons. its basically insinuating that we wont be able to teach our daughters how to properly respect and care for themselves in regards to sex. thats terrifying. because for everyone worrying about just one penis, there are tons of girls not being told whats right and wrong in terms of self-respect. yes, i believe all fathers should teach their sons how to act and treat women but fathers and mothers should be teaching these same/similar values to their daughters.

i have both.

my daughter is very easy to raise. she usually does what is asked (ok repeating a few times heh).

while my son is only 2 he is harder to control then she ever was. he is always climbing everything, wanting to run to someone he sees etc.

don't have kids, but from observing my frends' kids and younger family members (my dad's the oldest child in his family and my aunt is the youngest, so my cousins are young enough to be my own kids), it seems like boys are harder before puberty, and girls are more difficult after.

Men are more protective of their daughters 'cause they know what all those developing young wolves are thinking about all the time. I know I remember the one thought that spun constantly through my head throughout puberty. We imagine them under constant assault from every direction by what amount to sex crazed maniacs spouting those corny lines that nevertheless might work on our still naive little princess. We know that no matter how clean-cut and nice Jimmy from down the street is nor how decent and respectable his parents are, he is busily concocting scenarios in which his winky might be sent exploring the untainted territories of daddy's little girl. Furthermore, we know that it's NOT the parents fault most of the time. This is what pubescent boys are regardless of upbringing and the only good way to prevent any mishaps is constant chaperonage strengthened by threats of torture and horrible death to any brainless bundle of hormones who steps over the line.

Just because some of us throw out an old bit of sarcasm, suddenly we don't know how to teach our daughters values? Wow, that's a reach and totally untrue, thank you very little.

i never said we dont know how to, im saying that we should spend the same if not more time teaching our young women about self respect and what is unacceptable behavior from her and boys that approach her

ALSO, have you SEEN the young girls today!??!?! 12-15 yr olds acting and dressing like they are in their mid to late 20s!! I AM APPALLED with many mothers and/or fathers today and their lack of attention on these issues. I cant believe that I am 10 years younger than these women who allow their 13 yr old to wear full makeup and buy thongs. FUCK NO! this is widely inappropriate and i feel like it only starts there... if they cant regulate what is proper for a young girl to be wearing on her body and face, i have a hard time believing these same young girls are being taught how to handle themselves accordingly when it comes to sex or intimacy. its frightening

Not a parent but looking at my extended family (cousins and all), the girls were all sweet and nice while the guys were hellraisers with major 'behavioral issues.'

I vote for girls, they seem to think the bathroom counter needs about 900 different bottles and jars on it and they seem to think they need 100 different kinds of shampoo. They are illogical.

Word, when I was growing up I had an older brother and younger sister. When the sister was ~14, the bathroom was slowly taken over. Me and brother have 1 shampoo bottle and use 1 thing of toothpaste. Sister has about 9 different shampoo's, about 4 different soaps, hair brush, curling iron, hair straightener, female hygiene shit and more random crap.

Early on girls certainly are easier. They typically are much stronger as newborns (eat better, sleep better, are more resilient when it comes to premi births, ect). They learn to talk quicker, typically walk quicker, and potty train quicker than boys.

No clue past that :p

They are simply reflecting their developing selves. While mentally people take longer to mature it's much more convenient for nature to have reproductive functions develop earlier. As they experience puberty and pass it I don't think you can really help it. It's a reflection of a physical state.

Yes, while customs are different now and parents act differently than the parents of the past I don't think there can really be a standard set for young women or restrictions set on young women when they have reached that maturity level. It's the kids choice and acknowledgment with a nudge is better than reaction with a stick.

High-Schoolers Will have sex . It's their choice.
