I would say Deus Ex, on the other hand, is a real contender for the best FPS game.

I consider DX an RPG. You don't have to shoot to win. Warren Spector claims to this day you can beat the game without killing anyone - although I have no doubt it's very difficult.

It's still a first person shooter, I would say. But it does have RPG elements, which is nice.

Blood is good, Painkiller (awesome visual and audial design) and so on.

What we need is more old-style co-operative play.

Agreed, that is the one thing that both Halo and Halo 2 did have, which was nice. I played both with my roommate in co-op mode, and we completed both of them. Had it just been me by myself, I probably would have not played for very long. I had enjoyed Quake2 in co-op, and I was really hoping Doom3 would have co-op (sans mod), which I think would have made it a lot more fun.

It is the best FPS for consoles, and the best part about it is the multiplayer.

It's not overrated at all, just that people who hype it up the most are those who are heavily-console gamers since PC-Gamer rigs are expensive as hell.

Sitting in the same room with a bunch of people while blasting them, or teaming up in a warthog to destroy others is the best part about it.

There ARE better games out there, but the biggest thing about Halo (IMO) is the multiplayer experience you have with a bunch of friends in a basement.

Halo 2 is even worse, more of the same crap.

Halo was fun as hell freshman year in the dorms. Nothin like sitting down on a wednesday night with a fridge full of beer, room full of peeps, and an xbox controller to play over the LAN against other people across all the school dorms. We had some crazy games :).
