The thing about California is its diversity. People just think of SF, LA, or San Diego, but those cities cover a relatively small part of the state. A third of the state is basically north of SF and usually forgotten. The coastline between Ventura and Monterey is gorgeous and not crowded at all. Plus, there's the beautiful national parks and the fact that you could drive from the beach to the mountains to the desert in a couple of hours. If people want to live in the middle of nowhere they can (CA ranks 12th in state population density). Having threads that claim CA is the best or the worst are pointless, but its diversity makes it unique.

I lived in Alaska for 33 years... Alaska > California
Now I live in Hawaii... Hawaii > California

I can't think of one reason why I'd live in California.

But yeah.. housing prices blow. Gas prices even more so.

Cali has the best looking females hand down
So Cal has In-N-Out
Cali has the best weather
Cali has one of the best malls (Ontario Mills)
San Diego has some of the most beautiful beaches in the US

Cali is the best place to live and the 2nd best state's not even close, yeah we got bad shit out here but the good outweighs the bad by far.
I work out of my house so I don't care about the traffic, but even if I had to drive in it daily it would be a small price to pay to have the privilege of living here

No doubt it was a much better place 20 years ago. If the current trends keep going, Texas looks to be headed down the same path.
I remember when the Tech Boom hit California hpow good it would be for the state. Little did they realize that it would have such an adverse effect on the general quality of life. At least California has great weather to help offset those problems. The same can't be said for Texas.

What Texas does have that California doesn't anymore is an American culture.

Please enlighten me on how my statement was ignorant? If Texas keeps growing at the rate it is and illegal aliens keep invading the state, it will be the new California.
The illegal alien situation is more of a SoCal problem. But it all started before that, it started in the 70's with the influx of Boat People and then in the 90's with the influx of out of state and foreign workers looking for work in the tech industry. I don't blame them as they were just looking to better their lives and if I was in their position I'd of done the same thing but it did take an enormous toll on the quality of life in California.

He hasn't spent any time in Bakersfield, Modesto/Stockton, Oakland or Barstow/Victorville either if he thinks everywhere in California is paradise.

California is the only state I know with cities that are more redneck than many in my home state. Bakersfield is probably the most redneck city I have ever been to.

I didn't say I like Riverside, I said I like California. Riverside is like 1/10000th of what Cali has, I go to SD almost every weekend, that's where I love. I work/live in Riverside, I spend my free time in San Diego, can't think of many places I'd like better. I've never heard of a state where every single city was a city people went "WOOOOW!" over.

California weather is non-debatable. It has the best weather of any state. No other state comes close.

I think he's one of those people who enjoys 0 degree weather with snow. You can't debate with a person who would even say Cali doesn't have the hands down best weather. Cali's weather is legendary & no other state can say that. As for us not having "real seasons"

no we don't have snow, but we have the best summers and our winters are nice and mild. You do realize there are people who move to Cali JUST for the weather right?? No other state can make that claim...

Snow - we get ass loads of snow. When we drove to Reno for Memorial day weekend it was snowing over Donner Pass in freakin May! There are 4-distinct seasons in Tahoe and last I checked that is in California.

We have 3-seasons in the majority of the state. Fall/Spring are very similar and count as 1, summer is hotter but low humidity, and winter is well rainy and colder. It does dip into the 30's at night.

You can go from surfing in Santa Cruz to snowboarding in Tahoe in about 4hrs.

I prefer my snow where I can visit it and actually use it, the highest elevation in most mid-west states is roughly 1500 feet. No point in having snow if you can't use it and at 1500 feet the skiing aint the best on those bunny hills.

Having no distinct winter season of snow/ice/ & misery leaves me extra money to buy more more shorts and less winter coats, scarves, hats, gloves. I don't have to keep a spare set of snow tires in the garage either. My car doesn't rust out from all the salt on the roads. I don't burn extra fossil fuels getting my car warmed up in the mornings nor do I have to heat my garage.

I see no distinct advantages of living somewhere that has 4-distinct seasons.

Not to mention "best weather" is a matter of opinion, kind of like the other thing you bolded. Then again, this whole thread is about opinion, and a lame poll to boot.

Because it's mostly populated by direct descendants of Okies who fled the Dust Bowl.

Modesto isn't that bad and a little further south you have Merced which isn't that bad, well besides the fact that it gets hotter than hell in the summer.

You know what California City really sucks? Fresno!

WTF, although you do get awesome deals their since it is a technically outlet mall, it's is far from one of the best. Victoria Gardens or South Coast make it look like a swap meet.

LOL.

Funny thing is, I think I'm actually WORSE off financially since moving to NC than I was in California. Home ownership is expensive!

Move to far northern California and you'll get that just fine.

Yeah, it's pretty close...but I can get it perfect in WA and northern OR and I get the benefit of fixing all the other bad things about CA. Some day I'd like to try Alaska...pretty sure that would be heaven to me.

Texas FTMFW.

too many Texans

Second most populous state and rising.

I expect Texas to be the new California in about 20 years.

Thats because all of the Californians are moving there.

And the Californians are almost as irritating as the illegals. While the Cali's are US citizens and so that makes them better than illegals, they constantly complain about not being in Cali. Why move to Texas if you love Cali so much???
