Poll Above. Personally, I find it humorous how people from other states bash California. Envy comes in many shapes and sizes it seems

Lived there for 6 months, been in 42 states...can say without question it's not even in the top 10. Bottom 10, very probably. Couldn't pay me enough to live there again.

Kinda a crappy poll, don't you think?

Just so you know, I don't have a problem with California. I just think it's kinda pointless to put a poll in your post if the only answer available is your answer. Might as well just not have the poll.

If by greatest state in the Union you measure by shitty highways, mass transit, educational system (outside of UC), and partisan politics then yes.

Its the most populated state and yet they don't even have the most football...WTF, even Ohio has more div 1A (or whatever they're calling it now) football teams. Epic fail.

I love California. Beautiful beaches, sunshine, gorgeous women, good food, but I don't think I can live there. Too expensive, too many people, and problems that come with too many people.

Civil rights (2nd amendment for instance), uncongested highways, realistic property values, a governor whose life hasn't been dedicated to make-believe, actual trees and vegitation, breathing room (ie not overcrowded), a population that speaks mostly english, weather that isn't mostly reminiscent of a desert, etc, etc.

realistic property values - refer to above

a governor whose life hasn't been dedicated to make-believe - I could care less

actual trees and vegitation - we have Napa Valley, you?

breathing room (ie not overcrowded) - again, refer to 1), you want all the land and air you want go to North Dakota.

a population that speaks mostly english - why? is diversity such a bad thing, Mr. Adolf

weather that isn't mostly reminiscent of a desert - um, we have ski resorts last time I check, does Mammoth and Lake Tahoe ring a bell?

I wish Arnie was our governor!

Rain forest!

A couple of acres in a city of a few million, you can have it both ways!

In a town of 30k, which is WAY too big for me really. 5-20k is perfect size for a town. Lived in a lot of major cities, and wouldn't do it again if it meant my life.

Bullshit. It's worth more to live in underpopulated areas than it is to live in congested areas...at least to me.

That's your choice.

You have A Valley...congratulations...even that valley isn't exactly what I look for. Come to the Northwest or Canada some day...now THAT's vegitation.

Not overcrowded here, and it's not North Dakota. You don't have to live on the moon to have a reasonable population density.

I could list the economic impacts, or the friction it creates in a society, but instead I'll just smile and accept your defeat.

Great...so as long as I live at a resort in one of two very small areas of the state I can survive. Instead, how about I live in one of the 20 or so states with real weather.

I love CA but it's too expensive and congested. So, no it's not the greatest state.

Stupid Poll.

To mangle a quote from Gandhi and PrinceofWands "I like your California, I do not like your Californians."

because everyone there thinks they are better than every other state. thanks for proving this to be true once again.

northern CA is ok. i would not live anywhere south of about sanfran, but would much rather live in Washington or Oregon.

San Francisco is like granola, once you remove all the fruits and nuts, you're left with the flakes.

I love SoCal.

Yep, that about sums it up for me as well.

If by "greatest state" you mean a wonderful state getting more messed up by the day with overcrowding, illegal immigrants, socialism, smog, wildfires, polution, then yes, it's the greatest state.

you need to change that to NYC because i live in NY and aside for the stupid taxes for the entire state your replys are wrong

drove 52 miles to work today, saw ~10 cars on the highway
you can get a 4000 SQFT house out here for ~250K
ehh our gov is blind, the last one liked hoes
we have lots of trees out here
theres more livestock in the county i live in then people, IE NOT OVERCROWDED
finding someone who does not speak english out here is harder then finding a black man in the artic
we have 4 seasons
