POLL: is baseball still the national pastime?

High TV ratings don't make a sport the national pastime. Bigsmooth was right when he said baseball is the national pastime because of the history associated with it. You can bet that Football/NASCAR won't stay at the top of the ratings forever, not that it matters. Baseball was, is and will be the national pastime for a long time to come.

Baseball's a dying sport. The sport's popularity has dropped because there aren't as many players coming out of the American farm system in comparison to foreign countries. Football is popular and will always be. Basketball is also but who knows if it'll slow down like baseball.

Actually Baseball's play continues to improve with each season while both the NBA and the NFL has declined. Todays Baseball teams are better than the Baseball teams of the late 80's early 90's. You can't say the same for the NFL or the NBA.

Hockey? That's a regional sport at best.

I say we steal Canada's national sport. (No, not curling)

This sport is non-stop and hard-hitting action. I don't know why people don't like it. What's not to like? You can't follow the puck ?

They are hard for Americans to relate too. Actually that's not true, some of the best NBA Players today are coming from Europe and they seem to be accepted by NBA fans.

I thought it was all about the excitement of the sport itself... you don't have to pick any idols.
