POLL: Is a Gamecube good for me? UPDATE: Bought one...

For some reason, the other night, I had a dream about old school zelda (don't ask why), then I was thinking about WindWaker later that day, and I realized how cheap a Gamecube is... So I looked things up, and it looks like I can find pretty good deals if I look hard enough.

The thing is, I already have an Xbox with 20-25 games (lost count), a PS2 (my brothers, I don't buy games for it, and I don't play it much), and already a Gaming-Class PC.

As far as games that interest me, its pretty much just the Exclusives I couldn't get on Xbox/PC/PS2....

Games I'm interested in: Metroid, Wind Waker, Zelda Collection, Mario Sunshine, Viewitful Joe, Smash Bros, Skies of Arcadia, Eternal Darkness,

Some maybes: Star Wars Rogue Squadron, SW: Rogue Leader, StarFox, Monkey Ball...

And I guess there are other games as well.

I figure for about $150-200, I can get a nice bundle. A console, a few games, an extra controller and a memory card.

So... even though I already own every other console and a PC, do you guys still believe its worth ditching the extra money from one paycheck into ANOTHER console? My best reason for justifying this puchase is that I can find a good deal on a bundle, and since I'm so late into GCN's lifecycle, its older top games are already cheap. Inexpensive quality entertainment.

EDIT: Please... unbiased opinions!

UPDATE/EDIT#2: I just bought one tonight!

GameCube Combo $100 Shipped OBO Includes:
GameCube System Black w/ all Cables
Controller that came with the System
Nintendo Memory Card
Zelda Limited Edition Disc (the one with the original games that came with the system)
Zelda Windwalker
SoulCaliber II
SSX 3

The games come with everything, except SoulCaliber II that comes with the case and disc.

Very good deal IMO :).

Thanks guys!

It's a cheap platform with a number of A-list titles. Of course, that may or may not be good for you depending on how much time you spend sitting on your duff playing them.

The Gamecube has some of the coolest games I've ever played! Honestly, I didn't expect much from it because of some of the comments made, but let me tell you firsthand that it found a place in my heart and I tossed away my PS2. If you have a HDTV, you'll find that the GameCube has more games that support progressive scan than the other platforms. At $99, the GC is truly a gem you don't want to pass!

Really like the GameCube. There are tons of great GC-only games and the price is right.

Don't spend a bunch of money of more games. If you want the Gamecube for Zelda, buy Zelda only and rent other games.
I made the mistake of buying a ton of games that I don't like. The only game I actually like out of all of them is Mario Sunshine :D Zelda is ok, but it's not what I thought it would be.

I love mine. After I got a GC, I ended up selling my XBox a few months later because I was always playing the GC. :)

It sucks that the cable is expensive and only available directly from Nintendo. I ponied up for it though, and I'm glad I did.

the thing about gamecube is that even though its library is very small, the games are quality.

There is areally good deal on a used Gamecube with a great game, Smash Bros., at Gamestop.com, its $69.99 I think.

and you are right that you can get many great games for $20 each or less. Metroid Prime, for one, is just incredible.

edit- and don't overlook Pikmin, it's a great wacky strategy game.

I own a Gamecube and have many of the games that you hold interest in. Wind Waker is a great game, although maybe a bit overrated. Eternal Darkness is one of the more enjoyable games I've played in the past year or two. Viewtiful Joe is HARD! Metroid is amazing, I just had a hard time seeing it in non 2-D form. I feel that Mario 64 better then Sunshine. A tropical-themed Mario just didn't do it for me. Where's the snow levels??

Also, since you mentioned the older Zelda games... you can get a GC disc that has them all! Just look on eBay for "Zelda promotional".

The reasons you posted are the reasons I bought one, I don't regret it. Granted Windwaker is NOT classic zelda but it is a lot of fun. Metroid Prime was a wicked fun game to play.

I think I decided to pick one up!

I found a pretty good deal...

Console with 1 controller and 1 memory card, Zelda Promotional Disk (not sure if its the 2 game or 4 game, I am getting that cleared up now), Zelda: WindWaker, and a few other games (not too interested, I'll sell/trade em in). All for $100 shipped! If everything was as described, I could be playing a Gamecube in a week!

BTW, how do you guys feel about the controller? I've messed with it a little, but the design is just wacko!

Thanks for all the replies guys, I'll try and get in on this deal.

I have mixed feelings about the controller. Some good points: I like the feel of the analog sticks and the shoulder buttons, they're durable, the Wavebird wireless version is great, and the button layout is excellent for some games such as Zelda.

The negatives: the controller is a little too small overall, the D-pad is tiny, the button layout is not good for some games, and I don't know why the heck it has only three shoulder buttons instead of four.

Overall, I wouldn't say the controller is fantastic but I don't think it's as horrible as some people say, either.

All kiddie games, and GC does them best. I think the GC is for you.

;)

Its good to regress a little and play games that are mindless fun! Monkey ball 2 comes to mind. Just pure fun - no complicated instructions...just roll the monkey to the goal.

girl and I played monkey fight last night (little monkey ball boxing) and I swear I haven't cracked up that hard in months...sides were splitting.

Or was that the two bottles of wine?
:)

I can't believe no one has mentioned Mario Kart yet. One of my buddies in the dorm has a Gamecube, and that game is as good and as addicting as any I've ever played. Of course, we're always racing with a bunch of friends, so if you're a single player type guy, it might not be as fun. Either way though, it has to be a must buy.

That's a shame... You are missing out on a lot of great games, for no real good reason. *shrug*

Not hardly. The Xbox has way more titles that support 480p.

Actaeon... If you like the exclusive titles that you listed, then you'll enjoy the GC. Outside of those (relatively) few titles, the GC offers up nothing better than the other two consoles.
