My roommate just bought an IPod this morning for $400, ($330 + $40 Firewire card, I just rounded it up) and he's been braggin about it since then. I asked why he didn't just buy a CD player that can play MP3s. I just don't see the point of buying a $400 player when I can get a $130 MP3 CD player. So, assuming you already have a computer and cdrw, which would you rather get?

**UPDATE**
My point exactly! :D

I already have my music collection in the form of many MP3 CDs... makes it a logical progression to buy a portable MP3 CD and eventually a CD/MP3 head unit for the car. Ipod? I can have both the portable CD and car audio for the same price as one Ipod...

And no need to organize the friggin Ipod and swap in/out for new MP3s and albums. Just burn and go.

You're already sounding like you don't wanna pay that much... heck, a Creative ZEN is a better choice since your Ferengist tendencies are coming through.

you can put everything on one ipod... you dont need many CDs. on top of that, with all the radio transmitters that are availible for the ipod, you can just use it in your car instead of a new stereo.

different solutions for different people. but if you have the money, an iPOD owns any other high capacity mp3 player. besides, there's the $300 version that holds *only* 10gb.

What I really want is a mini-DVD based MP3 player. 1.5 GB of MP3's, cheap/small media, what more could you ask for?

if you got the cash flow, get the ipod, mp3 cd players are cheap alternatives, they can be found for under 50$...

its more a money issue then anything else, you cant really compare the two in the same class.

Good idea! And a good manufacturer would have to make it, unlike the Mini-CD players that are out now...most of those are junk.

iPod is WAY too much money ... in a few years you will have much cooler players out. Just spend the $130 for right now and wait until the cool ones come out.

I am waiting for when I can hold a fraction of my mp3s in a player that doesnt cost as much as my computer

ipod too big for me personally. I have a very thin MD.

remote sucks on the ipod. too thick and long, positioning of the headphone socket is crap and the way it sticks out.

If it was thinner and lighter.

You don't want to spend the money so go fo rthe MP3 cd player. Not worth the money for the size of it. Not pocketable in my opinion. Too big and heavy.

I have iPod and a cheap cd MP3 player.
Ipod is way cool and nice BUT too expensive for me.
CD MP3 player is ok, must keep making disc though. Cheap, really cheap.
NetMD ? YUCK !
must convert MP3 to ATRAC, then record to crappy quality to get more than normal quantity.
